The straps detached on my first hike. Easily remedied when I returned home but problematic on a 10 mile hike.

By Thunder Thigh 3 from Troutdale, Oregon on 09/08/2009 Pros: Easy to adjust, Good grips, Inexpensive, Lightweight, Strong Best Uses: Day trip, Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I've used these poles on two hiking adventures up on Mt Hood and they have made my knees feel extremely better. Especially with the descents since the places are usually steep. I've also enjoyed the fuller work out my arms get since my body weight is not only dependant on my legs, but is also propelled forward by my arms. These are great poles and I wouldn't be caught without themif I have anything to say about it.

They collapse down to about 27" and weigh in a little over a pound (haven't gotten them on a scale for a true weight yet). They are strong, easy to adjust and you can't beat the price.

They are attractive and well built with nice grips. A bit heavier than more expensive poles, but big deal...it only makes you stronger. Great value.

Haven't figured out how to deactivate the shock absorbing feature, but I like it so I am not worried about it.
Don't be fooled by the low price By Swimming hockey player from SF Bay Area, CA on 09/01/2009 Pros: Easy to adjust, Good grips, Lightweight Cons: Challenging to adjust Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I looked up reviews on these before I bought them, knowing the MountainSmith name as a quality producer of goods. I found a review by a guy who said that despite the price, these were an excellent product, comparable to much more expensive trekking poles. And that was at a price more than double! So I jumped at the chance and haven't regretted it. Adjusting them was tricky and I nearly returned one until I managed to get it.
