Not as good as the old USA made ones By hiker from Rochester, NY on 06/02/2008 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable Best Uses: Comfort-Oriented, On The Weekend Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have an old pair of gramicci quick dry shorts that have long been one of my favorites for hiking. They are worn out and I bought these to replace them. The gusseted crotch is essential for freedom of movement. I have had frequent problems with my legs chaffing on long hikes (15 miles or so) and these are the best shorts I have found at eliminating this problem. The new ones appear to have the same fabric as the old ones but they are not as well made. My original ones were made in the USA and the new ones are made in Asia somewhere like most other garments. The waistband is much lower quality, particularly the webbing belt. I had to send back the first pair of new shorts I ordered because the waist belt was not attached to the waistband. It was a glaring defect that should have not made it out of the factory. The second pair was made correctly but is not up to the quality of my USA made ones. I have not tried these on a long hike yet but I expect them to work as well as my old pair which is good.
The size seems a tad smaller than the original. I ordered large and have a 36-inch waist and these fit but are a tad tight to slip on due to the elastic belt not stretching enough. Once I have them on they feel ok. They may be a tad tight on the legs but they are adequate. I'd recommend these at a discounted price but the quality is not up to snuff for the premium price they want to charge. The fabric does looks great, it has nice subtle variations in color from the dyes that are used and they look way better than your typical solid color nylon shorts.
gramicci should ALWAYS make this product By madriver from ann arbor michigan on 05/26/2008 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, High Quality, Washes Well Cons: Need this in swim trunks Best Uses: Casual Work Days, Comfort-Oriented, On a Date, On The Weekend, Special Occasions, To Work Describe Yourself: Bargain Shopper, Casual, Eclectic Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: best shorts for hot weather and travel
By too-much-to-do from Mesa, AZ on 05/12/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Flattering, High Quality, Versatile Best Uses: Comfort-Oriented, On The Weekend Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I've always used the original cotton G-short for harness related sport, particularly climbing, because of the gusseted crotch. This lightweight short has just become my favorite to wear with my skydiving gear as well, particularly on warmer days, everything just fits so nicely! It will probably replace my board shorts under my windsurfing gear as well...
