Can wear them right out of the box. Boots last a long time. I have bad ankles and wear them whenever I am on uneven ground.
By pafmarwak from OR on 09/16/2009 Pros: Durable, Stable, Water Resistant Cons: Heavy, Slippery on wet rocks, Stiff Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I wore these walking around outside for a couple of hours and the front of both shins were very sore. The boots don't flex at the ankle. I am hoping that they will loosen up after awhile. These boots are low volume and fit my narrow foot very well. If you wear thick socks I would size up. I had tried them on at a store previously and that along with the positive reviews prompted me to order them. STP offered this Montrail Blue Ridge Hiking Boot at an exceptional price compared to other stores.
By Cat from Seattle, WA on 09/15/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Stable Best Uses: Cold weather, Day hikes Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: My first outing with these boots was a 9 mile hike and they were great - very comfortable, good traction, no blisters. Lots of room in the toe box but good fit around the rest of the foot so there's no slipping around inside. My last pair of Montrail boots lasted 7 years before I wore the soles down to skids so I'm expecting to get a lot of use from these for years to come. Since they do weigh 3 lbs, I'll only pull them out for some longer day hikes but still, really, really comfortable.
