By ATM from Indianapolis on 11/09/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Great Traction Best Uses: Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels half size too small Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: based on the reviews I ordered a half size up. I'm usually 9.5 to 10 so i went with 10 and they fit fine. Good looking shoes with nice traction. Seem well built but haven't put them throught he paces yet to get a better feel. The forefoot cushioning is a little bare but I think it will prove adequate.

Good Fit but poor forefoot support By Bubba from Lexington, KY on 10/16/2009 Cons: Poor forefoot support Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought these for short day hikes and was pleased to find that they fit right out of the box. The only complaint I have is the lack of cushioning in the front part of the shoe. I find the ball of my foot is sore after a few miles. I bought these thinking they would provide more support than my running shoes. If you are expecting historic Vasque performance you will be disappointed.
By Tom the sport tourist from Hartford, CT on 10/06/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Water Resistant Best Uses: Everyday, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Snug fit when new, but have normalized after a few weeks.
If unsure about sizing, go with a half-size larger. I'm a 9.5-10 and I ordered the 10, which feels accurate.

By Fallen Season from New England, MA on 10/06/2009 Pros: Durable, Great Traction, Stable Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes, Everyday Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Please take into account that I've only had these shoes for a couple of weeks when interpreting positive remarks concerning e.g., "durability". The construction appears solid compared to other shoes in its class.
The Vasque Mantra was designed using a relatively straight last, which I found somewhat awkward initially but quickly adjusted. I was concerned it was going to feel too narrow, but that was not the case. The toebox is roomy enough. If you border between sizes or want a bit more width, I suggest ordering the larger size. I usually wear a 10 1/2 or an 11 in most athletic shoes, and I'm glad I went with an 11 in this one.
The only complaint I have is that the footbed produces an annoying squeaking sound. Workarounds (in order of permanency) include repositioning the footbed, applying some talcum powder beneath it, or swapping out the footbed with another.
good construction, lightweight, comfort By mackie from Sunnyvale, CA on 10/05/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Stable Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: well made shoe, combining leather for support and durability with fabric for light weight and instant comfort. Solid vibram shoe. A good compromise shoe betweeen a very lightweight trailrunner and a mid-size hiking boot. I backpack in trairunners (with loads up to 25 lbs) but I figure I need a little more support, especially now in the shoulder seasons when the pack gets heavier. Not wanting to wear heavy boots or even mid-weight boots, I settled for something a little closer to a trail sneaker.
