By Carol from Durham, NC on 08/11/2009 Pros: Comfortable/No Break-In Cons: Not Durable/Wears Easily, Poor Cushioning, Poor Traction, Sole falls apart Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: The sole ripped off the bottom of the boots after just 30 miles on the trail. The may be comfy, but they are of very low quality. Poor showing, Montrail!
A serious lightweight hiking shoe By Gumper from Cottonwood Heights, UT on 08/03/2009 Pros: Arch Support, Breathable, Comfortable/No Break-In, Dries Quickly, Durable, Great Traction, Shock-Absorbent, Stabilizes Foot Best Uses: Mixed Terrain, Rocky/Unstable Terrain Describe Yourself: Gym Rat, Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I use these shoes on all types of hiking trails: steep, rocky, boulders and everything inbetween. The higher boot provides great ankle stability on the irregular terrain and also protects the ankle from scrapes. It is not waterproof which has never been a problem for me. They dry fast if I do get wet ~ which I have. If you are hiking flat terrain the 1/2 size up will do. However, I purchased these a full size up so that my toes wouldn't cram on the way down steep terrain. I replaced my others (exactly like these) that were 1/2 size up for the full size. Perfect! I have a narrow, low-profile foot. If you have a chubbier foot you might want to go up 1 1/2 sizes.
By Jen from Dallas, TX on 07/03/2009 Pros: Breathable, Lightweight Best Uses: Grass, Mixed Terrain, Paved Trails, Rocky/Unstable Terrain Describe Yourself: Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Nice lightweight boots. Just note that I bought one size larger than I normally wear and those were too small. Bought them a size and a half and they are ok. They take some getting into but are comfortable once on.
By 'Nilla Bean from Pittsburgh, PA on 05/18/2009 Pros: Arch Support, Breathable, Stabilizes Foot Describe Yourself: Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These seemed small for the stated size, so I returned them with regrets.
good value for lightweight hiking By hay fever from bay area on 04/05/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable/No Break-In Describe Yourself: Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I usually wear very stiff, heavy, waterproof hiking boots for cold wet conditions, but needed a lightweight breathable shoes for spring/summer. These fit my criteria and were comfortable from the first hike. The shoes are not full of bells and whistle, but are a good value. I have to agree with one of the previous feedback where the wearer had difficulty with getting into the shoe. You really have to loosen up the entire shoe to get your feet in.
Be sure you order up in size. I'm usually a 7.5(long, narrow feet) and ordered the 8 which worked out fine with lightweight summer socks. If you plan to use thick, cushy socks you may need to go up a full size.
By Gwendolyn from Torrington, CT on 03/24/2009 Describe Yourself: Recreational Walker/Hiker, Trail Jogger Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: a size 9.5 was more like an 8 - beautiful shoe but size was a big problem Sierra Trading Post Responded on 03/24/2009
Thank you for your review. After having this item fit, we have determined that it does run small. We have added a size suggestion to order one whole size larger. Thanks again.
By jim from new haven, ct on 03/13/2009 Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These were a full size too large and very shiny. Looked tacky to me.
By active retireee from Burlington, VT on 03/02/2009 Pros: Arch Support, Breathable, Durable, Great Traction, Shock-Absorbent, Stabilizes Foot Cons: Needs some breaking in, Somewhat clunky Best Uses: Good for urban walking, Grass, Mixed Terrain, Paved Trails, Rocky/Unstable Terrain Describe Yourself: Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Keep my feet stable and well-supported for prolonged walking. Orthotics fit inside. Might be too much for warm weather, but great for fall, winter, early spring. Other reviews say to order 1/2 size up: I did, and am ok, but could have ordered my real size. My feet are thin and bony, so maybe sizing up is less of a concern for me.
