By Schwert from Seattle WA on 12/16/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable Best Uses: Backcountry, Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Inseam: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have had a pair of these Filson lightweight cover cloth rain pants for years. I bought this pair for my wife so she could enjoy their benefits. Living in Seattle, we walk in wet weather for many months out of a year. I particularly like the easy on/off of these pull-on rainpants. The inside is lined with slippery nylon and the ankles have a snap-over gusset so pulling these one over light-weight boots is possible. The wax coated cover cloth is not only durable in brush etc, but also has an excellent water-resistance. These are not waterproof in the modern sense, but I have found they are waterproof in the practical sense. They are vastly more comfortable for long term wear than traditional waterproofs.
These also make excellent wind and snow pants. Not as light as modern fabrics, but likely ones you can hand down to the next generation.
I paid full price for my pair at Filson, and would do so again. The STP price is truly a bargain.
By Chuck the walker from Chicago, IL on 11/13/2009 Pros: Durable, Stylish, Waterproof Best Uses: Walking in rainy woods Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Gear Usage: Cold Weather Living, Winter Sports Inseam: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I like these rain pants, though have not yet had a chance to wear in the rain. Typical Filson quality (high). The pants may be too warm for heavy exertion in warm weather, because by nature they aren't breathable, but then, what rain pants are? I plan to wear for walking in the woods in rain, and know they will be really good.
