The best saltwater rod at this price
By Downunder FlyVerified Reviewer from Australia/NZ on 09/08/2009
Pros:
Good Tip Action, Sensitive
Best Uses:
Ocean Fishing
Describe Yourself:
Avid Fisher
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
I now own three SS rods, and for me the #9 is the sweetest of all. It is one of the best saltwater rods out there at any price, and IMHO the fit and finish is equivalent to topshelf US made rods (except perhaps the cork). Nothing else is even close at this price!

By BonefisherVerified Reviewer from Minnesota on 08/14/2009
Pros:
Accurate Casting, Durable, Easy To Transport, Good Tip Action
Best Uses:
Fly Fishing, Ocean Fishing
Describe Yourself:
Avid Fisher
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
I've been a long time Sage loyalist and their acquisition of the Redington Co. left me confident they must make solid rods -- they do! I bought both the 8 and 9 wts for bonefish and permit in the Bahamas and Mexico and they have fished every bit as good as rods twice their cost.

OK but not worth retail.
By colorado fisherVerified Reviewer from Colorado on 08/03/2009
Pros:

Cons:
Poor Construction
Best Uses:
Fly Fishing, Large Fish
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Comments:
I just fished this rod in Alaska for a few days and am not that happy with it. The rod is probably worth the STP price but not the retail price of [$] I fished a G Loomis GL3 that retails for 350 next to the Redington and the Loomis out fished it in every way. Again for 200 to 250 dollars it may be OK but it is not worth the retail value. I also had the butt section come loose from the rest of the rod twice as others have commented on. I also noticed that under the right conditions you can feel the cork move on the rod blank which is another sign of a less expensive set up. I will be returning the one I purchased but if you are just looking for a cheap back-up rod or a rod to take fishing that won't break the bank this one may work fine.

Comments:
I took this rod on a trip to Belize to fish for Permit. It worked really well to flick out heavy crabs on short casts and was very accurate and fast on long casts. I am totally sold on this rod! I have a few other high end rods and this one left those in the dust! Great rod for the money. I am going to buy an 8 wt.

Comments:
Great rod, loads quickly, fights well. The only con I have regarding it is that the butt section came apart from the upper 3 sections twice while casting in the week I had it in Florida. I even tried rubbing some candlewax between the ferrules to prevent this after the first time, yet it still came apart.
