It will keep the chill off; however, the knit is just loose enough to let in the cold when the temperature drops. I have no regrets about this sweater and I am thinking of buying on in another color.

Very warm. Appropriate for wear at office in business-casual setting, as well as in more casual environments.
By Z the Cyclist from Portland, Oregon on 10/30/2009 Best Uses: Casual Wear, Everyday Describe Yourself: High-end shopper, Practical Sleeve Length: Feels too long Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I just recently bought a similar Glover sweater from STP that I love, so I was quite excited about getting these in some different colors. I was very disappointed because the fit was really off - the sleeves were really too wide, really baggy as well as long. It made the sweater fit very poorly. The colors are great, but I'm returning these sweaters due to the extremely poor fit. I'm very surprised that other buyers did not seem to mention this problem.
By shopstoomuch from USA on 10/28/2009 Sleeve Length: Feels too long Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: i have bought LOTS of sweaters and shirts from STP and this is the worst fitting item ever. It is HUGE!! at least 2 sizes off the mark. A good find if you shop big and tall (mostly big), otherwise steer clear.

I wouldn't be overly impressed if I had paid retail.
This is not a hand knit, and the panels are not hand linked. Consequently the seams are a bit pronounced, stiff, and bulky compared to a hand knit. I point this out only because other reviews have implied this sweater provides hand knit quality at a bargain price; it doesn't. Having stated that this is a really nice sweater for what it is.
The yarn the sweater is knitted from is not tightly twisted (worsted?) and so the sweater can catch on things more easily than other sweaters, it's not going to last long looking good if you wear it as knock-around clothing. The basket weave in the front of the panel is a fairly open stitch and you will want to wear a color similar to the sweater's to avoid your undershirt showing through. A navy tee shirt works with my navy sweater just fine.
On size, I think the size is true. I wear a 44 regular and a 16 1/2 x 36 shirt and I opted for the extra large after ordering large and XL at the same time. The large fit ok, but if it shrank ANY it would have been too small in a hurry. The XL is generous but comfy. Heed the comments that warn this sweater will shrink if you hand wash. I think it may shrink a very small amount even if drycleaned, at least the first cleaning.
I had ordered a JG Glover sweater before from STP and the waist band was blown out, not snug at all. This sweater from JGG fits as it should though. It's very well made, the stitches are the classic for an Aran crew, the wool is soft and comfy if just a bit delicate. It's as good as I hoped it would be and I recommend it.
Great sweater and fits well By Mark from Novi on 10/27/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, High Quality, Stylish, Versatile, Warm Best Uses: Casual Wear, Everyday, Going Out, Office, Travel Describe Yourself: Classic, Comfort-oriented, Practical, Stylish Chest Size: Feels true to size Length: Feels true to length Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a great sweater, just like all of the other readers have said. I was concerned because many said it was too large and so I considered ordering a size smaller. Instead, I ordered my usual size (Large) and the sweater fits great. I am about 5'10" and 170 pounds (for reference.) Maybe the manufacture has adjusted their sizing.
Great product at a reasonable price By T from Raleigh, NC on 10/26/2009 Pros: Comfortable, High Quality, Stylish, Warm Best Uses: Casual Wear, Everyday Describe Yourself: Classic, Stylish Chest Size: Feels true to size Length: Feels true to length Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: A very handsome classic sweater that is warm and extremely well made.
Good English wool sweater By whippscross from Fort Lee, NJ on 10/22/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Versatile Describe Yourself: Classic Chest Size: Feels true to size Length: Feels true to length Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Although a typical English wool sweater it is too loosely knit, therefore not as warm as it should be.
soft but not the best quality By seaspyder from Bethesda MD on 10/22/2009 Describe Yourself: Practical Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: The knit is an open one, so not as warm or heavy as expected. The wool is very soft, but has a serious tendency to "loop"- there are constantly little loops of wool being pulled out with no apparent cause. I will try it a little longer (until a first wash) but Ill probably return it...
