By Q from Calgary, AB on 01/11/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Waterproof Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping, Skiing/Snowboarding, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought the full version of this jacket: shell + a removable down liner, so it's considerablly warmer than just the shell featured here. I live in Canada and this jacket has served me well during our severe winters. I wear the jacket daily in -30C weather and ski frequently when the temperature can drop below -35C with windchill. The jacket has kept me dry and toasty under all these conditions. The build quality of the shell and liner is top notch. And it's warrantied for life although I doubt you will need it. It's an excellent jacket for inclement conditions. Highly recommended!
Glorified Raincoat (by itself) By Matt from Roanoke, VA on 01/07/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Stylish Best Uses: Casual Wear, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Love the look of this jacket. I would prefer a zip on/off hood and also the hood is made to accomodate a helmet so it is unusually large. I made several phone calls and I finally confirmed that this jacket is part of the columbia interchange system, which was the selling point for me. I then purchased a Titanium fleece to button into the jacket which makes this coat a big winner.

I couldn't believe the prices on the new stuff, so when I saw this jacket, I decided to buy one. I am so happy I did. What a great coat. A great coat at an unbelievably reasonable price. The quality is top notch. The hood fits perfect over my helmet. Lightweight, waterproof, breathable, and great service as usual from Sierra Trading Post!!
By Rick the Runner from San Rafael, CA on 01/04/2009 Pros: Durable, Lightweight, Windproof Best Uses: Casual Wear, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I used this snowboarding, and the only thing I didn't like was that the bottom of the jacket was cut higher than most snow sports jackets. Additionally, the sleeves could be a bit longer to tuck under gloves. But it's well made, seams are taped, and I'm sure it's waterproof. Love the vents on the side.

Otherwise it is fantastic!
NOT a Ski/Snowboard Jacket By Jack of CO from Rocky Mountains, CO on 12/31/2008 Pros: Breathable, Durable, Lightweight, Windproof Best Uses: Casual Wear, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This jacket is great for spring skiing and early fall, and if you don't live in the mountains it's a good casual jacket that seemed very waterproof. Great for a rainstorm, lots of room for layers, but NOT a mountain jacket for the slopes.
Durable, functional, weatherproof, light By Scott in Maryland from Frederick Watershed on 12/31/2008 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight Best Uses: Hiking and Camping, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a very well-made shell, but it is only a shell, with zero insulation and only two panels of thin lining in the front chest. Also, it will not zip in a Titanium interchange vest or fleece. Because of this, I use it for travel and extreme dog-walking (yep...there is such a thing!)rather than skiiing. I am very satisfied with the jacket for these purposes. The Selkirk has some great features that make it a true mountineering shell. All of the watertight zippers are medium gage (not to fine or two chunky), and have oversize rubber zipper pulls that work well with heavy gloves on. All stitched joints are also seam-glued. In addition to the two front hand pockets, there are two convenient small pockets located high on the jacket (left shoulder and left chest) that hold a recco beacon, sunglasses, or an iPod. Goggles would be a tight fit in the chest pocket, though, and would not fit in the shoulder pocket. Inside there are two chest pockets with elastic across the top for secure stowage. The Selkirk has Columbia's traditional giant pit zips, which are great. The hood is not removeable, but it is very adjustable, with two elastic drawstrong closures and a firm, functional hood brim to keep sun and rain from your eyes. There is no powder skirt inside the jacket, but there is an elasxtic cord hem around the bottom. The fit on the jacket is textbook USA size large. I am 6-1/185 and a size 42L (jacket) or 16.5/35 (fitted shirt) and am very pleased with the cut. This jacket is not fitted trim, but it is snug enough to wear while mountain biking and still allows for use over a sweater or down vest.I got the orange color... it is "autumn" orange, not bright orange, and has earned compliments.I was content paying [$], now I see it a little lower and that makes it a great value in my opinion, but remember that the lightweight, packable construction of this shell makes it more of a rain-stopper than a cold-stopper. Happy trails!

I'm a fan of Columbia products and this one didn't let me down. Lightweight, well built, lots of pockets. Only small issue is I wish it were an inch or two longer. But, I'd buy this model again, nonetheless, when my current one wears out.
