By cow2215 from bay area on 03/03/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Lightweight, Warm Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels too long Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: nice jacket. as far as sizing, i'm 5'10", 170#, 40" chest, 33-34 sleeve and a M fits very well - it's snug enough that i couldn't do a bulky layer, but thin base layer (or layers) would be fine. sleeves are about an inch long for me (i'm guessing 35") but probably appropriate for an activewear jacket (keeps wrists covered with activity). L was too big through the chest for me, probably ok for a 42-44 chest.
By AK from Aleutian Chain, AK on 03/03/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Lightweight, Stylish Cons: Not Enough Pockets or Features Best Uses: Casual Wear, Hiking and Camping Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I love the jacket. By BJHJ from Delaware on 02/26/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable Cons: Tight in the arm pits Best Uses: Casual Wear, Hiking and Camping Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I read there was a powder skirt and it is not true for this jacket. I prefer this fabric as a softshell over the "neopreme" type fabrics. Product quality is very high and it is a great looking jacket. I am returning this jacket bacause it is close cut in the arm pit area feeling bunched up.
By Monks from Cincinnati, OH on 02/22/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great lite-weight protection. Enough warmth (over a sweater) and coverage for most days. Nice high collar. Waterproof enough except for a deluge. Very breathable and moves easily with you.
By RTP from Little Rock, AR on 01/19/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Lightweight Cons: Inadequate Protection Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I normally wear a large, but got a medium based on others' feedback. I'm a 40-41 chest and am glad I got medium. Medium is sort of 'form fit' but I think it's supposed to fit that way. Not as wind-resistant and warm as a Simms Gore Windstopper coat that I have. I expected better from this coat from that standpoint. Not sure if I'd ski in it. Sharp-looking and sporty coat though, and breatheable if using it for aerobic activities or wearing around town. Would guardedly recommend this.
By Bob the gaper from Vreemont on 01/16/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Fit: I bought my Rayzar in XXL. I'm 6-4, 245#, 18" neck, 37" sleeve, and the Rayzar fits great. Others might find the sleeves a tad long. Torso is cut on the slim side typical to current styles, yet I found that it would easily accomodate a fleece vest and an additional base layer. Anything more would be a squeeze. Back length is good, covers to mid tail. The collar is fleece lined (nice!)and is cut tall enough to allow you to tuck your chin and lips inside it when the icy wind blows. I love that. There is enough room for a fleece neck gaiter.
Fabric & features: The schoeller fabric is pretty rugged on the outside. It feels like you could strike a match on it. Stretchy, with a soft microfleece interior. Velcro cuffs work fine. 1 exterior zippered napoleon pocket for ipod, keys &/or wallet. 2 exterior zippered hand warmer pockets - the zippers on these are relatively long and the pocket interiors are lined with mesh, so they appear to be designed for torso venting. That's terrific until everything falls out of your pockets when you bend over to buckle your boots. No powder skirt - it has a draw-cord at the bottom hem. No interior pocket or pit-zips.
Use so far: resort skiing, single digits (F), moderate wind. I did not feel the wind blowing through the Rayzar while making big fast GS turns on the piste, so the shell is indeed a shell. That said, I think the material is breathable to the point that you can feel some evaporative cooling going on when you are at rest, which might be perceived as wind penetrating the shell. The jacket does not have much insulation, it's more shell than soft. If you pay attention to your base layers you could easily use this jacket in anything from mid winter single digits to spring conditions in the high 40's. A nice functional piece from Clouveil.
By fox from southern oregon on 01/08/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight, Stylish Cons: Straps on wrists poke out, Straps snag everything Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels too long Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: this coat is great except the sleeves have staps at the wrists which snag on everything from me to anything i touch. too bad.
