Warm, quality and practical By mtnkid from Montana on 03/10/2010 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Stylish, Warm Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: bought the jacket for cragin belay jacket/ all around cold weather rig. So far so good, being synthetic its a fair bit heavier than my down and compresses less; but for synthetic it is not bad, slightly heavier than the DAS still. Love the huge internal pockets for warming gloves ect. Exterior pockets are adequite, double zipper is nice for accessing that buried belay loop.
For the price it seems like a real decent jacket, perhaps wont being seeing serious alpine time but will work well as my craggin, all arounder.
Only complaints- could be lighter and could have left out the thumb loops (Just a personal thing- nothing really wrong with them).
Im 6'1" 150lbs, ordered XL. Fits well over R1 hoody and softshell. Fairly bagy over just a t-shirt.

European sizing, so remember to size up. I usually wear an XL went with XXL here and it seems perfect. I'm 6'3" 205lbs., if that helps.
Sierra Trading Post comes through with yet another, Great Buy!
Sleeping bag with sleeves By Wonky Wander from Earth! on 02/15/2010 Pros: Comfortable, Compresssable, Lightweight, Snug hood, Warm Cons: Not for long limbed types Best Uses: Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels too short Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: If you need a well made, compressible, somewhat water resistant and above all practical cold weather jacket it would behoove you to give this serious consideration. In regards to sizing the the thumb loops are a nice addition but the sleeves are a tad too short for them to be used for any extended time. Remember to size up from your normal size as this is a euro cut. And if you plan to layer extensively perhaps two sizes up. I'm 6'2", 165lbs and have a 36" sleeve and bought the XL. I suppose if I had a lower ape index the thumb loops would function normally but as it is the sleeve is comes just shy of mid palm. And I doubt the sleeve would be any longer on the XXL. All in all a super warm, functional and well made jacket for cold conditions.

Excellent jacket and quality for price! By JMF from Central NY on 01/24/2010 Pros: Durable, Great for cold belaying, Warm Best Uses: Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping, Ice Climbing, Skiing/Snowboarding Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels too small Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a great belay jacket by Mammut and not a 100g Primaloft jkt. This thing is warm, maybe as warm as my MH sub-zero down. Trim fit and size up one for perfection. The 240g MTI insulation seems bulky and could be thinned out in sleeves and hood, seems too much there. Would be 5 stars if thinned out a little. Maybe a little bulky to actually climb in, have not tried that yet. It does pack down well for it's relative bulk though. Mine weighs in at 28g stuffed but feels heavier. It does stuff better than expected and even fits in my sub-zero sack, does not come w/ one. Pockets are awesome, lined even. The inside pockets are the best I have seen as a climber. They angle so hands go right in w/o un-zipping too much. Very large for gloves. Reverse zipper at bottom is great for belaying. Bought the mustard color which I did really like but then saw the red in stock again and ordered that. The mustard is much nicer than I expected and would have been happy w/ that. Material is very nice and not too shiny like some. Fit is trim and warm for belays or general wear. Sleeves maybe too tight due to bulk of MTI but never get too tight w/ layers. Thumb holes are nice option but maybe not needed. A great rival to Patagonia DAS and a better deal on sale.
Great jacket for the money By Petty43 from Ilinois on 01/21/2010 Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight, Warm Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Skiing/Snowboarding Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Just bought the mustard color in size large (I am 5'9", 170) and the fit is perfect. The sleeves are a little longer because of the option you have to put your thumbs through the hole and bring the end of the sleeve to your knuckles. I just wore the jacket on a ski trip this weekend and it was perfect. On a 30 degree day, with only a turtleneck on, it was toasty warm - if not a litte too warm. As it got colder, where I think this jacket performs it's best, I remained comfortable. Should not need to layer beyond a shirt, and 2nd layer in very cold weather - below 0 to 10. Build quality is excellent. Looks exactly like the picture. Haven't tested it's waterproof ability. This is one of the warmest, nicest looking jackets I have owned. It was worth every penny through this site - expecially if you can apply an additional coupon. I wish the hood would go over a ski helmet, but not a necessity - I wear an UnderArmour liner and a helmet, which keeps the head plenty warm.
Euro sizing or not, this is tiny. By Eric from San Jose, CA on 01/18/2010 Best Uses: Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping, Skiing/Snowboarding Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels too small Sleeve Length: Feels too short Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Ideally, this would be used as a heavy-weight winter belay parka similar to the older style Patagonia DAS parka.
However, the jacket is tiny. Not just Euro-sized tiny, but really, really, tiny. I normally wear a size large for Mammut's athletic-sized jackets (such as the Ultimate jacket). Even in size XL, the stratus parka is too small (shoulder width, sleeve length) with just a lightweight shirt as a baselayer. Adding normal winter wear, I can only imagine that I would end up in a size XXXL for the intended use as a belay parka.
Barring the sizing issue, the functionality also seems lacking. The internal bottle pockets are sized too large, the hood is not helmet compatible, and the main zipper is too small to easily handle with gloves.
I think as an around-town or ski-resort warm jacket this could work well. But as a technical winter parka, the design seems to be seriously lacking.
Great Coat -- Outstanding Price By JR from Minnesota on 01/14/2010 Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight, Warm, Windproof Cons: zipper can be a pain Best Uses: Cold Weather, Extreme Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great coat, not super puffy like all the rest, but still warm. I was worried not getting down, but this has performed admirablly in Minnesota's January cold.
