After the storm I took it off and my t-shirt was still nice and very dry while the rest of me was soaked, when I bought it I had my doubts on its ability to keep the water off. Great jacket, love the hood.

By bedoin6 from Germany on 04/24/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Durable, Good Cut, Lightweight, Versatile Best Uses: Daily Use, Outdoor Activities, Travel Describe Yourself: Casual Dresser Sizing: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I needed a versatile jacket for the changing German weather. The ability to blend in (black clothes)and be comfortable is a plus! I have found the need to add a fleece layer when it is chilly as the material blocks the wind and rain, but transfers the cold of the wind in. Excellent for walking, layering and travel. Attractive cut.
By D from Minneapolis, MN on 04/14/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Comfortable, Good Cut, Versatile, Warm Best Uses: Bad Weather, Daily Use, Travel Describe Yourself: Casual Dresser Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I originally got this jacket a size larger than I wear (as the reviews suggested, and bought a large) but quickly found it to be too big and definitely bulky. This jacket is made of a heavy weight windproof fabric. So, if you bought the jacket a size larger and wore a sweater underneath, it has great potential to get you through the winter (depending on your winter - not MN). But for me I needed a spring/fall jacket to dress over lighter clothes. The medium is a better fit, and will do great for field work and winter sports! Best price around for such a great jacket too. The only con is the shape of the hood, it has a built in visor brim which is a little dorky, but definitely functional.
Love the feel of this jacket. By PLUM from Himrod, NY on 03/15/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Durable, Lightweight, Versatile, Well Made Best Uses: Biking, Daily Use, Going Out, Outdoor Activities, Travel Describe Yourself: Casual Dresser Sizing: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought this jacket to wear biking. I have not worn it yet for biking, but wear it almost every day walking the dog. It is stylish and looks good enough for travel. Nice to have one travel coat for both rainy and cold weather. Water proofing is good, breathability is fine. Hood is snug over a bike helmet, but fine for normal use. Nice neck closure to keep wind out and good pockets.
Also a good layer for very cold weather.
By Alaskan Chick from Interior Alaska on 03/12/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Comfortable, Durable, Good Cut, Lightweight, Versatile Best Uses: Bad Weather, Daily Use, Going Out, Travel Describe Yourself: Casual Dresser Sizing: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Good luck finding a better value. This soft-shell is flattering and high quality. It has quickly become my favorite. Four seasons worth of use, just put a warm fleece underneath and it will carry you through the bitterest cold. At the same time it is light enough to throw in a backpack for cool summer nights. It's also stylish enough to be a travel staple. Most waterproof softshells retail in the $150-200 range. Even the other Sierra Trading Post options are pricier. I can't say enough good things about it.

Order one size up.
By out and about from Seattle on 01/22/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Comfortable, Durable, Good Cut, Lightweight, Versatile Best Uses: Bad Weather, Daily Use, Travel Describe Yourself: Trendy/Stylish Dresser Sizing: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought this for traveling through Eastern Europe next month. I had bought one for my husband and loved his so much that I had to look on Sierra for a womens version....found it and love it! It is warm and with the hood will be great fro the rain, yet nice enough to toss a scarf around the neck and wear it out at night. A fantastic travel buy that will be well used at home as well!
