comforable sturdy light boots By godot from nj on 12/19/2008 Pros: Comfortable/No Break-In, Flexible, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The ad says to buy 1/2 size bigger but I wouldn't since the padding in boots shrinks over time, and these fit fine right out of the box. Excellent boots but go for more ankle support if you're going to be carrying heavy loads.

not designed for heavy use By commeatus from seattle, WA on 11/14/2008 Pros: Great Traction, Water Resistant Best Uses: Day Hiking, Light Loads Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: These are fairly comfortable shoes. I've had more comfy shoes from saloman, but few others. the fabric over leather design was interesting and would have given the shoe good protection from blackberry if the fabric actually covered leather, which it does not. beneathe the fabric is the gore-tex lining, making this shoe prone to pinhole leaks from thorns. also, under the bottommost lace holes where the tounge merges with the rest of the shoe, the lining developed holes quickly. I was unable to step in water more than an inch high without soaking my socks. I wore these shoes for five months, most problems appearing withing the first three.
By Charlie from Idaho on 09/10/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Water Resistant Cons: Small toe box, Terrible smell Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I use them for hiking in all types of Terran and weather. They feel comfortable and light weight. The toe box is small.
They smell like an elk or moose herd or a horse barn. I have to leave them on the outside porch because of their strong smell.

Excellent cushion, aggressive soles By EvanL from Boston, MA on 07/15/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Flexible, Great Traction, Lightweight, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer, Casual/Recreational, Environmentalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: My first pair of Patagonia shoes and I'm impressed with the build quality, aggressive Vibram soles with numerous lugs, lightweight and more cushioning than most boots (makes it plush and comfortable). My feet are wide and the medium width fits my feet comfortably (no pressure points to chaff). It runs HALF A SIZE SMALL - I usually wear size 10 and ordered 10.5, which fits perfectly.
I wore it yesterday walking around town - it grips well on asphalt and concrete (although not as well as the 2-material soles found on some trail running shoes). The only con is the cushioning makes the shoes less breathable so I won't wear this on hot summer days.
Much of the top is coated canvas, which makes it flexible and is supposed to be waterproof. I'll find out about this and its performance on the trail and crossing small streams this weekend.
