Vibram sole traction design is great.
By Willis Teoh from South Australia, Australia on 11/06/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Flexible, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer, Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels half size too big Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I hike and hunt in conditions that vary from very hot and rocky to wet and muddy. The boots are very well made. good looking and break in was virtually nil. Very comfortable. It would need better arch Support/insoles and that is personal. The ankle support is superb. It grips my ankle well and prevents my toe nails from "popping" out during decent. It have a very good feeling this pair should last me at least 2 seasons. It felt 1/2 size too big but with thick scocks it is ok. I'd prefer the boots to be a bit lose than tight. Will buy again.
By Dafpilot from Maine on 11/06/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Warm, Water Resistant Best Uses: Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels full size too big, Feels too large Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These are the most rugged boot I have ever used, and the most rugged I have seen in my limited experience. I purchased a pair of Alico's similar to this pair 3 years ago, and they are just now wearing out after nearly daily use.
Definately not a casual boot; these are great for serious hiking. But they are also comfortable enough to wear to work, or walking the streets.
I suggest getting your own insole to modify the arch support to your needs.
Nice appearance and a sturdy hiking boot By Miller Tyme from McKinley (Trapper Creek), Alaska on 11/05/2009 Pros: Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Day Hiking, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I'll use this boot for day hikes. The full leather construction is a plus, i.e. not a lot of nylon or poly, so I don't have to worry getting too close to a camp fire.
By ReCharred from Orem, UT on 11/05/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Warm Cons: Heavy, Long Break-in Best Uses: Cold Weather, Harsh Terrain Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I love how tough these boots are, but they will take a while to break in. They appear very well contructed, and I like that if I ever wear out the sole, I can have these resoled.
Great Boots to Wear Everywhere! By Roger from Monterey, CA on 11/04/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Warm Best Uses: Day Hiking, Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought a couple of pairs of Tahoe's before these boots and I like the ankle support for backpacking heavy loads and ruggedness of this sole. After hiking in them, they do not seem heavy after awhile. Great boots! I cannot testify to the life of the boot as just bought this pair. Looks good though!
By K2mykel from Atlanta, GA on 10/29/2009 Pros: Flexible, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Professional/Guide Sizing: Feels half size too small Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I work for AT&T and used Scarpa Rio's for several years for hiking and work. They are heavy but excellent with the ever changing terrain of a telephone man-one minute I can work in a penthouse suite and then move to a flooded out neighborhood to play in the mud. Because I work summer and winter outside I didn't want the cloth lined boots that so many manufactures are producing now, I assume that is cheaper for them. The leather liner is cooler in the summer and (surprisingly) warm in the winter, with good socks.
I've worn these now for almost a year and the soles look almost new, I wear them 5 days a week and 8 to 10 hours a day. The leather has some wear but is still holding up to the water even after sloshing thru the floods that we have had in GA lately. I've stood in ankle deep water for over 2 hours with out any leakage and that is with out treating the leather. And even wore them to a wedding last weekend, please don't tell my brother in law that I wore my work boots to his wedding.

By Big Drew from Bristol,RI on 10/28/2009 Pros: Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Harsh Terrain, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: My first pair of Alico's but wont be the last. These are on the heavy side for day hickers but are meant to be multiday expedition boots. Completely waterproof with great traction and stability. I also have been using these in place of workboots. Well made, and the Stitching seems great. Break them in and you'll have boots for a long, long time.
