Scarpa Rio clone
By K2mykelVerified Reviewer from Atlanta, GA on 10/29/2009
Pros:
Flexible, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant
Best Uses:
Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Wet Conditions
Describe Yourself:
Professional/Guide
Sizing:
Feels half size too small
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
I work for AT&T and used Scarpa Rio's for several years for hiking and work. They are heavy but excellent with the ever changing terrain of a telephone man-one minute I can work in a penthouse suite and then move to a flooded out neighborhood to play in the mud. Because I work summer and winter outside I didn't want the cloth lined boots that so many manufactures are producing now, I assume that is cheaper for them. The leather liner is cooler in the summer and (surprisingly) warm in the winter, with good socks. I've worn these now for almost a year and the soles look almost new, I wear them 5 days a week and 8 to 10 hours a day. The leather has some wear but is still holding up to the water even after sloshing thru the floods that we have had in GA lately. I've stood in ankle deep water for over 2 hours with out any leakage and that is with out treating the leather. And even wore them to a wedding last weekend, please don't tell my brother in law that I wore my work boots to his wedding.

Comments:
My first pair of Alico's but wont be the last. These are on the heavy side for day hickers but are meant to be multiday expedition boots. Completely waterproof with great traction and stability. I also have been using these in place of workboots. Well made, and the Stitching seems great. Break them in and you'll have boots for a long, long time.

Comments:
These boots are about as close as you can come to getting something special hand-made in Italy for a great price. The workmanship is impeccable. They were comfortable to walk around in right out of the box, but look to need breaking in for any hike of more than a couple miles. Wore them at the office and they were a big hit--everyone was delighted where they came from and how easily they can be re-soled.

Two Year Review
By Wind River WalkerVerified Reviewer from Lander, Wyoming on 10/17/2009
Pros:
Ankle Support, Arch Support, Flexible
Cons:
They Shrink
Best Uses:
Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads
Describe Yourself:
Casual/Recreational
Sizing:
Feels half size too small, Feels too small
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Comments:
I loved these boots for the first few months that I owned them. Then, they started to shrink in length. After six months I could no longer wear them on the trail, so I relegated them to work boots. They've been fine for that duty over the last eighteen months, and I wore them almost every day for over a year. However, even though the exterior leather is still in decent shape, the interior leather at the back of both heels has ripped apart. Unfortunately, when the soles finally wear-out the boots will have to be trashed instead of re-soled. I would not buy another pair; I'm currently using Asolos on the trail.
