By AJ from Hillsboro, OR on 08/07/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Excellent fit & finish out of the box, so far they don't seem too difficult to break-in, but I have not trail-tested them yet.
Great handmade boots at a good price By Rocky Trails from Portland, OR on 08/03/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer, Environmentalist Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I hike at least once a week, and wear out a set of boots every couple years. I have always had issues with heel blisters during break-in, until I bought the Alico's. They were comfortable the first time I wore them (on a hard hike with extended steep uphill) and ever since. I like them enough that I just bought a new pair to have when the old ones wear out, which doesn't look like it will be too soon. These are well-made, solid boots, perfect for tough day-hikes or backpacking trips.

Straight out of the box and no blisters.
Feel very durable.
Really comfortable boots, great fit By Tom the trekker from Paradise, CA on 07/19/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable Cons: Arch support not good Best Uses: Day Hiking, Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Good for moderate hiking, not heavy duty enough for serious backpacking. But would recommend for casual and daily use. High quality workmanship and materials.
Very well made, very stiff By xcskiboy from rochester,ny on 07/15/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I needed boots with toe room and these have the width I need, plus a large amount of height room for toes. They are very stiff boots (compared to the Eccos I am used to (no wide widths in them). Not uncomfortable out of the box, but real break in is taking a long time.
Best boots I have owned in 10 years. By Mike from North of Boston on 07/13/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Comfortable need break'n, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: 4000 footers club NH, Avid Adventurer, Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Have not had a boot this good since the Dunham's made in the 70's. Yeah you need a good 20 miles to break them in, but the next several hundreds you get great comfort and support as well as ankle protection.
I have missed wearing a boot this well built. I have tried several so called hiking boots over the last 12-15 years. Very happy I found these.
Made for off-trail hiking By Dan from Mesa, AZ on 07/13/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads Describe Yourself: Professional/Guide Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I do a lot of work in the Sonoran desert, mostly off-trail and often in the heat. This type of environment shreds most boots. One pair of expensive "mountaineering" boots had their soles un-glue in the heat and were flopping around like the shoes on a clown! Glorified tennis shoes do not cut it here. The old-school Vibram soles on these boots are perfect for these brutal conditions. I put sno-seal on boots right away, not as a water repellent, but as protection against slicing. There has not been an issue with breathability. These are the boots I have been looking for, and should last for many years.
By trvlrngr from Huntsville, AL on 07/07/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Everyday, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels half size too big Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great boots. This type of boot is hard to find. They don't make them like this anymore. A little large but with insoles added they were a perfect fit and you need to add insoles. Superfeet work great with these. I'm a backpacker and dayhiker. I was able to wear them right out of the box for casual hiking. I would break them in a little more for backpacking. I have wide feet and narrow ankles and these are perfect.
Excellent Outdoor Work Boot By Zappa from SW Oregon on 06/26/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Heel Box, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Day Hiking, Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer, Professional/Guide Sizing: Feels half size too small Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I am employed by the National Park Service as a maintenance worker in the Pacific Northwest. I can be working under vastly different conditions, ranging from indoor computer work, hiking 8 miles with 40-60# pack to trail creation and rock work. Best job in the world! These boots were purchased for additional arch and heel support due to a long-term problem with plantar fasciitis. Problem is now improved dramatically since purchase. I normally wear a size 12.5-13 medium work boot. These boots were ordered at size 13 and fit fine for the first week or so. Then, as the sole & leather started to flex, I began to notice my toes bumping the front of the toe box, particularly on decents of any consequence. The only option to address the problem was an arch support insert to stabilize the foot within the shoe. Wonderful boot, well constructed, but the sole inserts that come with the boot need to be replaced with something more sustantial.
