Strong boots perfect for rocky terrain By John from Batavia, IL on 01/27/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Stable Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I was concerned about some of the reviews when I ordered these boots, regarding sizing and stiff soles, but with a boot sock they fit perfectly and give great support. The soles are stiff, which is just what you want in rocky terrain. You could walk all day on a railroad grade with these boots, where you'll feel every sharp ballast rock through a lighter boot.
By gbrollins from San Juan Island, WA on 01/07/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Stable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Working outdoors Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These are not hiking boots. They're good for outdoor chores but you don't want to take off on five mile trek in them. The soles are very stiff so you're kind of walking flat footed all the time. I've worn them about five times and that has not loosened up any. They are very comfortable on your feet and well insulated. but they are a little un-nerving on rough terrain.
By Marshall the scribe from San Francisco, CA on 01/04/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Stable Best Uses: Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I just bought my second pair - that's how satisfied I am with these boots. Superb quality materials and construction throughout. I use them for everything from everyday wear to day hikes, and likely will backpack in them someday. When I brought the original pair in for resoling, the shoe repairman was equally impressed, saying they were among the few boots made today with the potential to last for many years. FYI, new Vibrams will be slightly heavier than the originals, which is a good thing.
Quality built basic no frills boot By frank from reading pa on 12/23/2007 Pros: Durable, Great Traction, Stable Best Uses: Cold weather, Day hikes Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels full size too big Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I use these boots for everyday use and short hikes. They are very well built and rugged. I dont like the fact that they're very stiff and too oversized. I have to wear a very thick wool sock to compensate for the oversize. My feet are swimming in them.
The oiled nubuck Alicos are GREAT! By asiago from Berkeley, Ca on 10/20/2007 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Non-slip sole, Stable Best Uses: Day hikes, Everyday, Working in a lab Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I wear these to work daily, spending the day walking and standing on concrete floors, and they were comfortable from the moment I put them on. I bought them as a last-ditch effort to cure my plantar fasciitis, figuring they were designed for all-day walking, and they did the job. They flex enough that they're fine for driving too. My first pair (oiled nubuck) is still going strong after about five years of daily work use, but could use new soles on the heels. The new pair is for work, so I can use the old ones for hiking. However, I was NOT happy with a pair of the smooth brown leather ones, as they are SO stiff, even after repeated wearings. Maybe someday I'll manage to break them in, but the nubuck ones were good to go on Day One. I feel so lucky to have found another pair available in my size!
Beautiful boots, solid platform By Canyon Hiker from Grand Junction, CO on 09/11/2007 Pros: Beautifully Made, Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Stable Best Uses: Backcountry, Cold weather, Demanding day hikes Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels half size too big Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These beautiful Italian-made boots brought a smile to my face when I opened the box. I found I could slip two fingers behind my heel when my toe was forward in the box, and was at first worried the boots were half a size too big. Then I remembered that feet swell on demanding hikes and that I might well want to wear thicker socks. That did the trick. So far, they've taken me to the top of 14,309' Uncompahgre Peak in the San Juans. At the price I paid, these were less expensive than many inferior boots.
Aalico Tahaoe Hiking Boots By rockhound from Okemos, MI on 09/11/2007 Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The boots were great, but I needed a toe box that is larger and higher due to the fact that I wear custom made orthotics.
