Love the traditional Norwegian welt sole--almost impossible to find on a boot these days. The tongue on the boots is very soft with absolutely no binding when laced. Great product!

By Wild Bill from Big Bear, CA on 09/16/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Day Hiking, Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Environmentalist Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have owned and used the same pair of Fabiano boots for over 40 years, but sad to say Fabiano is out of business. The boots are still going strong, but over the years your foot size changes, so I am getting "dead toe" with them now, and they are no longer entirely suitable. I live and work in the Mojave, in the high desert, and I go back and forth between the desert and the San Bernardino mountains. So I am dealing with cactus, scree, boulders, rocky trails, etc. on a frequent basis. I also run up to Tahoe sometimes, and you know the conditions up there. Now, I had purchased Vasques Skywalkers to keep in the 4WD, and I took to using them, and they are nice for casual use, but what I really needed was a replacement for the Fabiano boots. These Alico boots are not Fabiano, but they have surely tried and they come as close as you can get anymore. They fit right out of the box, and it is always a pleasure to do business with Sierra, so that part of the experience will not inconvenience you at all. Just in case you misjudge, Sierra always makes it easy to return footwear for another size. Like all Italian boot lasts, this will be a trifle wide in the heel in the medium sizes, but if you wear your socks properly you won't notice. When you hike long and hard, your foot swells up to a half size, so you don't buy boots too tight anyway. I am very satisfied with these boots, and I have recommended them to my son and my friends. You had better grab them now, because when they're gone, they're gone, and you'll be left with "high tech" junk from China. You take care of these boots and they will last you at least 20 years.

By Biker Bob from Texas High Plains on 08/07/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Flexible, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Wore these a day and then put Lynco insoles in and took a 5 mile hike on the second day I had them. These boots are just about as comfortable already as ones I've worn for a month of so. Fit great and I plan to enjoy them for a long time. These are the real thing. I even purchased a pair of the summits before these came in just to take advantage of the price. I won't need boots for a very very long time if ever again. I'm retired and their weight doesn't bother me at all. Get them while you can!!!
