By Dan from Buffalo NY on 06/10/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Comfortable/No Break-In Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These boots feel like boots should. I have been wearing quality boots for 35 years and they are hard to find. Italy makes the best hand down. Do your self a favor and buy a pair to find out exactly what fine boots feel like. They are real, handmade and ooze with quality.
By newmexico to michigan from northern Michigan on 06/05/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels half size too big Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: classic "waffle stompers" after a few weeks wearing these solid leather/vibram boots they feel like an extension of my feet. I added a nice orthotic on top of the very thin insoles and made up for the slight oversize problem...I would have done this anyway as I like a good arch support on boots I'll be wearing all day. the breathable leather (NO-WAX) dries quickly and the breathable lining kept the sweat down. I saw the new alico catalog (looking up their leather care recomendation) and it looks like Alico is changing to the standard overpriced and overcomplicated boots everyone else is selling. Grab these beauties before they dissappear.
a piece of mountaineering history, never improved on.
By Fisherman from Morganton, NC on 04/26/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Warm Best Uses: Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Started out with 3 days yardwork to break in, the removable arch support needed a bit more oomph, so I replaced, sized correctly for hiking socks even with my wide feet ( ordered ex- wide) , while not a mountaineering boot, sturdier than any others I have had for 30 years.
By DigitalEyze from Incline Village, NV on 04/19/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Warm Best Uses: Day Hiking, Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I've had my Tahoes for about 6 years and put on several hundred miles between hiking in the Sierra Nevada and wearing them every day. I've resoled them once and my shoe repair guy says that boots like these aren't made any more when I bring them in or their annual cleanup. I'm inclined to agree.
They're a bit heavy, which is great, I've walked through too many pairs of nylon garbage. Outstanding boots worth more than they cost.
By GeoBill from Columbia, MO on 04/01/2009 Pros: Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Cons: Long Break-in, Stiff at first Best Uses: Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer, Professional/Guide Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These boots are good quality and constructed of good leather. Because of this they take a while to break in. Initially they hurt the top of your feet whenever the toe is bended significantly, however this is gradually going away as I slowly break them in. Overall, good boot, good buy, price is right.
These are boots!, not high-top sneakers By CD from San Diego County, CA on 03/30/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Great Traction, Re-soleable, Shank Best Uses: Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational, Scouter Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought these because I was tired of feeling every rock through the soles of the Dunham boots I had been wearing. Except for the lack of a leather lining they are just like the boots I had as a Boy Scout in the 70s. Sure they are a little heavier than current boots, but they will protect your feet and won't fall apart after a year or two.
By Rockin Robin from St. Charles, IL on 03/24/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These boots are definately quality made. I wear a 3E and really wanted them so I tried the 2E width in my size and they weren't even close to being the right width. I think they are a single E at best. Other than that they seem like awesome boots but I had to send mine back.
By Zoltarswim from Albany, NY on 03/24/2009 Pros: Comfortable/No Break-In, Flexible, Great Traction, Water Resistant Best Uses: Day Hiking, Everyday Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a good all-around town boot. The ankle and foot bed are not really stiff enough edge with, but they are good boots for everyday activities. I haven't taken them up any mountains yet, but with the easy rolling foot bed, they seem to be a better summer boot.
Very nice boot, but needs better insoles By Patrick the trapshooter from Lizton, Indiana on 03/24/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Great Traction Cons: Needs better insoles Best Uses: Day Hiking, Everyday, Light Loads Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational, Rough on shoes Sizing: Feels half size too big, Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Nicely constructed boot, but needs some better
footbed/insoles. Right away you can tell the
boot will need a thicker more substantial insole.
Feels very thin and does not lend itself to
much support. Does not cushion against repeated
shock of hard surfaces. Will put good aftermarket
insoles. Very good boot in all other respects.
By Hank from Washington, MO on 03/22/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable Cons: Heavy, Long Break-in Describe Yourself: Outdoor worker Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought these boots after many years of buying cheap work boots at big discount chains. Those boots weren't that good to begin with and never lasted too long. I've only worn them a few days. They are slowly breaking in. I'm not complaining. A heavy duty, full-grain leather boot like these aren't going to break in over- night. I'm pretty confident that these will be the last work boots I'll ever buy.
P.S. I know STP calls them hiking boots, but there're good work boots too.
