OK, an old fashioned hiker. By hill hiker from petaluma ca on 07/09/2009 Pros: Flexible, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Day Hiking, Everyday, Light Loads Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels half size too small Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I ordered these because they were leather- its hard to find a full grain leather boot these days. They fit ok- if I hadn't ordered another boot that was just blissful, I would have kept them, because I got sick of shopping for boots. However, the quality of these is not as good as another pair of leather boots I tried on from STP. not horrible quality, just not excellent- a C, not an A or an F. The heel is an actual heel, cut in at an angle, which I would not prefer for backpacking- I could see it causing me to trip. I prefer the rounded heel/ arch on the sole of modern style boots. I also guessed from looking at them that they would need waterproofing pretty quickly- did not look like the original treatment would hold long. As another reviewer said, these were decent width- they pretty much fit my very wide toes.
By maineknitter from Maine on 07/01/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Cons: Long Break-in, No arch support Best Uses: Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational, Environmentalist Sizing: Feels half size too big, Feels too large Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These boots are great. Very heavy duty. I sno-sealed and they are completely waterproof. It was recommended to order 1/2 size larger, and I wish I hadn't, but they still fit good enough. Wide toe box, which I need. No arch support and the foot bed is hard, so you'll need to just add a more comfortable liner (I just substitued a New Balance sneaker footbed and now they're great!) Highly recommended if you want a pair that will last a few years.
By Idabilly Girl from Boise, ID on 05/12/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Genuine leather, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Superior craftsmanship Best Uses: Everyday, Light Loads, To and from the bus stop Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational, Environmentalist, Student Sizing: Feels half size too small Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: As a full time college student I carry a 25 pound backpack. Since my tennis shoes did not provide enough support I decided to try hiking boots. The Alico Tahoes give support, comfort, and look great. My normal boot size is 7, I ordered a 7.5 and they fit perfectly.
By Lowrider_eagle from Reno, NV on 04/07/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Easy to beak in, Nice looking, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels half size too small Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I purchased these as a gift for my wife. She wanted new boots before we hike Yosemite. The reviews all looked great and turned out to be right on. Order a 1/2 size larger. She loves the boots and is day hiking right out of the box in the foothills with out any problems.
Comfortable, incredibly durable By MamaJane from Arlington MA on 03/20/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Beautifully made, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Lightweight for leather, Sturdy/Durable, Warm, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer, Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels half size too big Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I love these boots. I've been jealous of my husband's for a year and finally got my own. They are made to last a lifetime (Vibram sole can be replaced if it wears out!)
BUT: I got half a size SMALLER than usual, and the fit is perfect. (The website says to order half a size bigger.) I have wide feet that are an 8-1/2 in length, but I usually get a 9 for the width. Since there was no 9 available, I got an 8-1/2 and a 9-1/2 to try. The 8-1/2 is a perfect fi, b/c there's plenty of toe room for my short, wide feet. Heel fits perfectly. My usual 9 would have been too big.
So consider your foot shape, not just size.
By Gambler from Maine on 03/04/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels half size too small Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great boot. As good as my old Vasques.
Alico Tahoee hiking boots By DD from Binghamton NY on 02/23/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Day Hiking, Everyday Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I walk most days three miles and hike whenever I can. There was no arch support in these boots so they went back
Good looking boots BUT . . . By Outdoorsy kind of a girl from Boston on 02/21/2009 Cons: Hurt my ankle, Not Comfortable, Too Stiff/Not Flexible Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: The tongue of the boot is not long enough and very stiff at the top, so it hit my ankle front too low and hurt. Wish they had been comfortable as they seem like a very well-made boot, other than that.
By Scott from Shippensburg, PA on 12/01/2008 Pros: Comfortable/No Break-In, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Everyday, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Bought these pretty boots for hiking. They feel like a running sneaker but with plenty of support. I liked them so much that I wore them to work. They have been heavily abused, hydraulic oil, sand, etc. They lasted me a whole year, all the other boots I have ever had did not last me more than 4 months. I need to get another pair. They do run a little small by about 1/2 size.
