So I purchased the size smaller and it was just a tiny bit too small but still on the wide side. It was very frustrating because they were what I was looking for but ended up returning both.

Well - I find them to be perfect. Yes, my feet are on the wide side, but not freakishly so! I never have to order "extra wide" shoes, though I do tend to pick brands that do not run narrow.
As for floppy, they are not meant for hiking. There is no ankle support, but you don't have that on regular shoes either. Yes they are floppy - it is pure sheepskin without any artificial support fabric. But that is what makes them sooo comfy.
Seriously, I do not want to take these off. I need to jump in the shower but am delaying so that I do not have to take these off my feet! :)
I normally only wear flip-flops except when it is freezing cold, and at last I have found the winter equivalent of flip flops. I'm thinking of ordering a second pair for future use after these wear out - the price is so fabulous compared to UGGs.

Even scotchguard left stains of the boot.

But they are so wide that I couldn't imagine wearing them anywhere without having to shuffle along. I did like that you can fold the tall boot down to expose the sheepskin, though.

I bought these Acorn boots both in the long and short versions. For the tall version, I began with an 8 (I am a size 9) as suggested by other reviewers. Unfortunately, my toes rubbed against the front of the boot. I exchanged them for size 9 and while they are floppy, the height of the boot compensates to keep them on my feet. Oh, so warm! I will never make the mistake of running in these...
