No Gortex so me feet can breath. No idea on the size b/c I just looked at my other Asolo's and order the same size
Lightweigt and very comfortable By Deputy Dust from Albuquerque, NM on 08/14/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In Best Uses: African plains game hunti, Day Hiking, Everyday, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational, Desert hunting, Environmentalist Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Purchased for plains game hunting in S. Namibia in early spring and warm 70-80 degree temperatures.
Even with my VERY flat feet the boots seem to cause no foot pain after several hours, something that I cannot say of many boots that I have tried .
Can't speak to wear/durability yet...
By hiker bob from Taos, NM on 08/11/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have a narrow foot and this boot is a bit roomy, but otherwise an excellent boot for hiking/backpacking. Excellent traction.
By Blister Killer from San Luis Obispo, CA on 08/08/2008 Cons: Too Stiff/Not Flexible Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Comments: Below the insert is thick hard plastic that runs the length of the boot. I clearly did not wear them long enough before my first backpacking trip because the boots CHEWED up my heals. I think it was due to this plastic and the fact I am right between sizes with narrow heals. I highly recommond breaking them in VERY well...I am going to give them a second chance with a five day trip. Call me crazy.
Comfortable and supportive By Grambo from Salt Lake City, Utah on 07/21/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Day Hiking, Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great boot! I wore them right out of the box at a scout camp in the High Uintas in Northern Utah. The area was at 10,000 feet in elevation. They were comfortable right out of the box but should have been broken in prior to camp. I did have a few hot spots but they never turned into blisters. They seemed to be fine on the fifth day of camp. Boots were supportive hiking over rocks and rough trails. Good traction. I need to buy a second pair.
By Steamboat Joe from Steamboat Springs, CO on 07/06/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Flexible, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Cons: Took time to break in Best Uses: Day Hiking, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought these as summer light hiking boots with a maximum daily hike of 15 miles or less with a light pack on in mind. I haven't done that yet because I don't think they're broken in yet. Have done several 5 mile hikes and they're definately getting better. I believe these will be great boots once broken in.
Asolo is the best. Need more uninsulate By none from Santa Rosa CA. on 07/02/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Flexible, Sturdy/Durable, Uninsulated Best Uses: Everyday, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, work Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: need more uninsulated Asolo's Who wants all this Gore Tex? Not me
By Mount Doom from Austin, TX on 07/01/2008 Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer, Casual/Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have ordered both the size 12 and 13 in wide in this boot and still can't get a good fit. I wear a U.S. 12 E (wide) in most every hiking boot I have ever worn and this one is still just too narrow in the toebox and mid areas. Perhaps it is the European sizing / fit? Not sure what is going on but it is a shame as these look like great boots and have lot of good feedback on them !
Hard to Find Great Boots! By Peter Pinon from Silver City, NM on 06/27/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Flexible, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Day Hiking, Deep stream-crossings, Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: It is getting so hard to find good, non-Gortex boots! I hike the Gila River trails in SW New Mexico, with lots of stream-crossings per mile, some knee-deep. What nobody mentions is that when water comes in over the top of Gortex boots it can't get out. You slosh around in them until you take them off and pour the water out. With regular boots it will seep out gradually so you aren't hauling a couple extra pounds of water around. I wear Seal-Skins socks over liner socks to keep my feet dry.
By cbengr from Coos Bay, Oregon on 06/26/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Flexible, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Day Hiking, Everyday, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: What a nice boot for everyday or light hiking use. I had to use a screwdriver to adjust the lace hooks at first, but that was it. They were comfortable from day 1. Buy it.
