Asolo FSN 85
By fairly light weight, rugged boot from Southern California on 09/14/2009
Pros:
Comfortable/No Break-In, Sturdy/Durable
Best Uses:
Day Hiking, Everyday, Harsh Terrain
Sizing:
Feels true to size
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
I had the gore-tex version of this boot the FSN 95 a few years back and it proved to be indestructible. I needed the same rugged qualities in a boot that would breathe better and found it in the FSN 85. Break in time is minimal, and the boot is comfortable for me. I tried the wide but found that there was too much material and I could not get the proper fit. I went back to the regular and after first feeling a bit too narrow, within two days, the leather had stretched to allow a good fit for my foot. You can also wet the leather and manually stretch or bring it to a cobbler to assist you. Finding a boot that fits right can be a chore, but take the time to try on different brands as many use different "lasts" or models from which they build the boot around.

Comments:
These day hiking boots are a great value. They are very supportive and once laced properly (had an REI associate show me how)they are form fitting around the heel. I wear a 10.5 D but went with a 11W for extra space. This was ideal in these boots.

Usually Asolo run narrow. I bought the wide size for me and the normal width for my wife (in a men's boot). Perfect!

Comments:
Great boot, especially for the price. I wore them once before an epic 3-day pack hike with no problems. Even with two broken toes, the boot performed admirably. I'd recommend buying a gel insert, however. Below the rather thin insert is a hard platform of PVC.

I use this product for hiking and work; I work all day on my feet lifting 75 pound blocks, shoveling stone, jumping on and off of tailgates, and other strenuous tasks. This boot meets the grade and offers excellent back support.

Comments:
These boots worked out well for the Rae Lakes Loop of about 50 Miles. They stayed dry and were quite comfortable for being only a few days old. The sole did seem to be a little worn for 50 miles. Also, they were quite slippery on wet rocks. Overall a very nice boot.

The wide size runs narrow like a medium.

Comments:
Beautiful boots too bad the wide boot is not wide enough. It is sized more like a medium and not a wide. The box says wide but the inside of the boot says 10 1/2 and no W.

Comments:
I have a wide foot and the wide width is still not quite wide enough. My normal size is 9.5 medium or wide, depending on the maker. I bought this in 9.5 wide and had to return them for a 10 wide. Liked them well enough that I bought my son a pair as well. They were recommended by a veteran climber/hiker.
