FSN 85 is NOT waterproof and is not that water resistant either. Just try walking in a field of tall wet grass like i did. My feet felt the water before 5 minutes. After 45 minutes they were totally wet. After taking 4 steps through a deep puddle my feet were swimming. And they stayed wet for a long time after being away from the wet area's .
I bought the FSN 85 partly from the recommendations of good water resistance on some of these reviews.
Dont believe them. I am shocked at the disparity between my experience and others on this review board who claim these boots to have good water resistance!
I would only recommend @ the low price point i got these at, or if you know you wont be encountering wetness. Especially because these are not really water-proofable....

By Blue Skies from Lawrence, KS on 06/23/2009 Pros: Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Purchased for my son whose backpacking boots had finally worn out and he didn't need the heavy duty backpacking boots. He had purchased a cheaper boot to wear at his summer camp job. After I gave him the boots and the next time he came home, he said "Thanks, Mom. You can really feel the difference between high quality boots and those cheap ones." Perfect fit.
By Bayly13 from Maryland on 06/17/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Warm Best Uses: Cold Weather, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: In reading other reviews the Asolo models seemed to be rated very high. All reports were very positive and highly recommended. When I received the boots I was excited to see how they fit but a little disappointed. Although they seem to be true to size in length, the width was narrow. I take a 12 wide and these boots still seem to be normal width and too narrow for my "bear" feet. Such a shame cause they really seem to be a well built boot. Maybe a different style by Asolo will solve the problem.
By Tennessee Treader from Millington TN on 06/14/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Flexible, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: great all around boot
By Hi-Tecs are better from NC on 06/11/2009 Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The length is true to size but these run very very narrow . I have NEVER wore wide shoes but ordered a wide based on reviews & they are far more narrow than any of my Hi -Tecs , not sure ab/ these . Lowers are sturdy , uppers are very comfortable , just not sure that the size wides will stretch to be as comfortable as any of the Hi-Tecs that I have . Bottom line even if you don't wear wide shoes order wide & hope for the best .
A great light-weight hiking boot By suelos from Alpine, TX on 06/11/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In Best Uses: Day Hiking, Everyday, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer, Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I do a lot of walking everyday across a variety of terrain. These boots give me good support and are comfortable. They seem to be holding up well and required only a short break-in period. The boots were comfortable from the start. I have a really hard time finding anything I can wear all day without foot pain. These boots fit the bill. I don't carry a lot of weight on my back, maybe 20 to 25 pounds on occasion, and the boots work well. I think I could carry much more without problem.

As an avid fisherman and hunter, I rely on good footwear. I absolutely love these boots. I've tried many brands, and spent much more, to get a boot this good.
