Nice Medium Duty Hiker/Great Price By John Deere from Upper Midwest on 10/04/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great feeling footbed, Medium stiff soleshank, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Day Hiking, Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Boots seem ideal for for rough country hiking with a light to medium load.
Very short break-in period. I haven't used in extremely wet conditions but in
light rain and morning dew will keep my socks dry.
By An Alaskan-wanna-be babe from Grand Rapids, MI on 09/21/2008 Pros: Durable, Great Traction, Stable Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I was initially impressed with the fit. I had plenty of room in my toes and the boots made my foot feel very supported. I developed heel blisters breaking them in to the trail on day one of a three-day hike in the Alaskan wilderness this summer, and was sad to realize they also produced some "hot spots" on the balls of my feet. I spray-waterproofed them well before we set out, which was good because they didn't leak in the rain or during watercrossings. Despite the initiation blisters, overall they're solid boots, and I am hopeful that they will only improve with time.
By Michelle from San Francisco, CA on 09/06/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Day Hiking, Light Loads Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer, Casual/Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I am a fairly true size 9, and my feet swam in these. Surprising given all the other reviews. Re-ordered the 8.5's, and they fit perfectly. No breaking in necessary. Nice light alternative to my heavy leather gore-tex hikers. Will use these for a long time!
By Mtn girl from NC on 08/26/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is my second pair of Asolo Goretex Hiking Boots. My first pair was great, no break in period. However, this pair was a little big and I didn't realize it until I had hot spots on my heels. My friend and I climbed Mt. Cammerer in Smokys, 3100', and I had to change into other boots because of hot spots. I put in superfeet and plan to try them again on a shorter hike.
By Lainer from Seattle, WA on 08/16/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Flexible, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Over 50 Avid Hiker Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I love these boots! I live in Seattle and do a lot of hiking in the Cascades and Olympics. I have a bad knee and need good ankle support. I also need good gore-tex boots that have good traction on uneven and steep terrain. I have never worn Asolo and decided to try them out. I had purchased another brand and had to return them as I was very disappointed. When I tried on the Asolo boots, I found them to be very comfortable. They fit perfectly. I first wore them at Mt. Rainier and they were great: great traction, great support and my feet felt great!!! I also think they are very cool looking!! I am very pleased!
Once broken in, they were great By mommyveggie from NC on 08/12/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Flexible, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I first ordered my size 8.5 but didn't have room for hiking socks. Ordered a 9 and was much happier. I got ankle blisters because I didn't have time for a proper slow break in period. They were very water proof and breathable even in humid, hot conditions. The toe box is long and tapered so there is no down-hill toe bang. I believe this boot will be a great friend on the next hike.
By Muchakoda from Nederland, CO on 08/11/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I liked these shoes, but they felt too big. I wear an 8.5, and ordered that size. The shoes look nice, they're stylish, and they seem to be made very well. They have good arch support. But, they are too long for me. Even when tied very tight, my heel rubbed up and down and my toes had too much room. The toe box seemed narrow looking, almost kinda 'pointy' compared to my old hiking boots. Not used to that. Unfortunately, I'll be returning these. But, if you know how Asolo's fit already, and you know your proper size, they would be good shoes for you.
By Cytology fan from Cary, NC on 08/11/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Attractive, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Cons: Difficult Laces, Too Stiff/Not Flexible Best Uses: Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer, Weekend warrior Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I think I like these boots, but they are VERY stiff. I think this is normal for hiking boots (this is my first pair), but I can tell they will need breaking in. They feel true to size; I ordered an 8.5, which is the same size I take in running shoes. I gave only 4 stars because of 2 reasons: 1) one of the shoelace hooks was bent closed, which made it impossible to lace the shoe until I pried it open with a screwdriver 2) the shoes are VERY stiff (which may be normal, but I have not worn them long enough to see if they will break in). But overall I do think I like these boots, and do not regret my purchase.
By KB from Leavenworth, WA on 08/05/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Non-slip sole, Stable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Backcountry, Cold weather, Day hikes, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These are a great pair of boots. They are very sturdy, however, comfortable. Very good ankle protection. I haven't worn them in the rain or snow yet but the material looks like it would protect from the elements. This is my first Asolo boot and I will definitely order this brand again:)
By busy mom from evergreen, co on 08/04/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Light weight, Stable Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Have done a couple hikes (one was 9.5 miles of mountain trail) and so far like these boots. The long hike gave me a very slight blister but that being said the boots had not been super broken in yet. They are very light and very easy to lace tightly. Seem very well built.
