By breelaura from Athens, GA on 06/16/2008 Pros: Great Traction, Stable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Backcountry, Cold weather, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels half size too small Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: These are heavy boots, which is to be expected of the model. However, the sizing runs small and the toe box is so depressingly narrow that there's no way I could fit decent hiking socks in these boots, even when I bought a 1/2 size too big. I bought my normal size (following the size guide), returned those and got some that I was SURE would be too big, which are actually too narrow and just a tad too small. Too much trouble altogether, which is a shame, because I really wanted these boots!

A solid, good-looking boot By Canadian Bacon from Cambridge, MA on 01/05/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Non-slip sole, Stable Best Uses: Backcountry, Cold weather, Day hikes, Everyday, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is one fantastic pair of boots. I bought them a few months ago and have been finding every excuse possible to use them. It's cold outside? Well, I better wear my Scarpas on my walk to work. There's slush on the ground? Shoot, guess my Scarpas are coming grocery shopping. In addition, as an experienced outdoorsperson, I would say that these boots are as good or better than any I've ever had. (My last pair of backpacking boots were Raichles that lasted through ten years of intense abuse (lots of multi-day trips, often in wet terrain). My current day-hikers, made by North Face, are simply not on the same level as the Scarpas.) The SLs are very stiff and quite heavy compared to the more modern, non-leather style of boot, but for me, my feet are much happier at the end of the day and I feel less likely to roll an ankle. As with many European brands, the fit might be a little narrower than what you are used to but once worn-in I find them very comfortable. (I would add that in response to my raving about these boots, my roommate bought a pair of the same ones and could not get used to them. She had never owned a pair of heavy-duty boots, however.) Overall, if they fit your feet, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Sharp looking boots that are practical By Jenn the grizz girl from Syracuse, NY on 09/11/2007 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Non-slip sole, Stable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I like the boots, they give my foot plenty of space to breath but at the same time they give good ankle and arch support.
One heck of a boot (wide model) By MoooMoooCow from Washington on 09/09/2007 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Molds to your foot well, Narrow heel, Stable, Water Resistant, Wide toe box Best Uses: Backcountry, Cold weather, Day hikes, Everyday, Wet if H20 proofd, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer, Casual/ Recreational, Rugged girl Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I love these boots. You can't beat the price. They are a heavier boot not really for day hiking but I am so used to heavier boots this doesn't bother me. Top quality materials! Great craftmanship too. I love the fit of the wide model. Nice narrow heel with wide toe box. This is difficult to come by. Break in will take about 50 miles (small person 100 lb person) but are still comfy out of the box. I water proofed them and had no problem at all in high water and crossing streams. My only wish is that the boot was lined with leather, but that would make it heavier and probably much more expensive. I love the fit of Scarpas and will try to stay with this brand. Thank you [...]!
