Finally a grownuup helmet that fits! By STAYING ACTIVE from BEANTOWN USA on 11/16/2009 Pros: Convenient back-of-head adjustment, Durable, Good ventilation, Lightweight, Nice fit system/pads Best Uses: Everyday riding Describe Yourself: Avid Cyclist Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have been stuck in the past buying kids helmets from the local shop to fit my small head. This helmet is perfect in every way. Looks cool, fits perfectly, and is a super buy. I have one I wear, and one extra for when it wears out. Thanks Sierra, for a great item!
Hopefully this review won't be removed By Betsy from Boston, MA on 11/02/2009 Describe Yourself: Avid Cyclist Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Giro recommends replacing their helmets every 3 years due to both wear and tear and polystyrene foam degradation. The helmet I received was manufactured in February 2005. Upon confirming with Giro that this helmet would not optimally protect my head in the event of a crash, I sent it back: I cycle daily in the city of Boston and need to have the best safety equipment available. I do not recommend buying this helmet due to the age of the one I received.
My first review stating these facts was removed by STP.
By bixdog from Woodland Hills, CA on 10/25/2009 Pros: Good looking, Good ventilation, Lightweight Best Uses: Everyday riding, Warm Weather Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels full size too small Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: While the helmet seemed well made and up to the usual standards for a Giro product, I found the fit to be completely odd. I usually wear a size small (Giro's 'youth' size fits almost perfectly, just a tiny bit too snug) so I wasn't expecting the goofy 'bowl-cut' fit of this helmet. It fit well in circumference but was much too short in the crown; there was easily an inch of space between the tops of my ears and the bottom of the helmet. The fit might be fine for someone more petite proportionally (I'm 5'6"), but I needed to return it. Fit aside, it's a really nice looking, understated helmet without a lot of graphics and other hoo-ha (I ordered it in black.)
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend... if that friend had an unusually tiny head.
Another quality Giro helmet By 4play from NE Ohio on 10/21/2009 Pros: Convenient back-of-head adjustment, Good ventilation, Lightweight, Nice fit system/pads Best Uses: Mountain biking Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I ordered the small for my nine year old son. It fits him for now. In a few years, probably not. Remember to check your head size and get the proper size.
DO NOT BUY THIS HELMET! UNSAFE!!! By Betsy from Boston, MA on 10/19/2009 Best Uses: Commuting, Everyday riding Describe Yourself: Avid Cyclist Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: The helmet I received had a manufacturing date of February 2005. Calls to Giro confirmed that the recommended 3 year replacement date was due to polystyrene foam breakdown in addition to normal wear and tear. Due to chemical changes within the protective foam, cycling helmets should not be worn after the recommended replacement date as the foam can no longer safely absorb the force of impact in a collision. I was able to return the helmet to STP without being charged for return shipping, but even after informing them of this safety issue I believe they have unfortunately decided to continue selling an unsafe product.
