By Rocky Backpacker from MT on 08/20/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support Best Uses: Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Backpacker Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The US 7.5 fit my left foot perfectly. A very comfortable, stiff boot great for serious backpacking and off trail, rocky trail use. My right foot needs a roomy toebox to accomadate a big toe joint. These boots almost fit the bill. It was just a bit snug and they wouldn't have stretched with use. I tried an 8, but it felt smaller, I tried an 8.5 and it was definitely a size too large. A potentially great boot, great toe room, but not quite a fit for me.
By Return to wilderness after 9 years from San Luis Obispo, CA on 08/11/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Warm, Water Resistant Cons: Long Break-in, My heel slips Best Uses: Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels half size too big, Feels too large Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a very well-made, stiff, rugged boot. I need a stiffer boot for my loose ankles which are prone to sprains. A stiff boot will take longer to break in...and my heels do slip and rub so I'll be wearing moleskin. But I accept this trade-off for the stability. I have a 'low-volume' foot with a shallow arch, so I added SuperFeet hikers, tongue padding, and mid-weight SmartWool Hiker socks. With these additions, these boots now fit me well. I also have a slightly wider foot, but not a full "C" width and these boots fit me fine in width. (Montrails were too narrow for me) I"m wearing these boots on a 3 mile backpacking trip with a 40 pound pack in southern Yosemite.
Raichle boots are my favorite By Nik from Davis, CA on 07/01/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Flexible, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Day Hiking, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Raichle makes great boots for a wider foot. If you prefer shoes with a wider footbed, such as Birkenstocks, give Raichle boots a try. These are super comfortable and lightweight backpacking boots.
Warm, Dry feet - wide at heel By GlacierGirl from Zurich, Switzerland on 06/23/2009 Pros: Ankle Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Warm, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold Weather, Harsh Terrain, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels half size too big Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I used these boots on a glacier hike, and my feet were warm and dry. Very easy to use with crampons, and lots of ankle support. On the ascent, my heel was lifting, probably due to my narrow feet, leading to some friction. There is also some break-in time required. Might be worth sizing down a half size if you have narrow feet.
Pleasant surprise: Fine pair of boots. By Thruhiker from Oakland, CA on 06/10/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Easy On/Off, Great Traction, Multi-Use, Secure Fit Best Uses: SpringSummer Mountaineer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought these boots for a non-technical mountain climb in snowy conditions. My old pair of boots had given up the ghost and wet through easily so I was looking for something dry with a crampon-compatible, stiff sole. I was apprehensive about the sizing as I couldn't find these in stores to discover my true size. Took a gamble and, although they seem to run slightly larger than other brands I tried, they work. My only complaint is that the right boot lacks the extra set of eyes of the left. The extra set starts low on the boot which allows me to lace it more snuggly. The price was right and the boots kept my feet planted and dry on the mountain so overall, I'm very satisfied.
Minimal break-in required By Catbear from Fremont, CA on 04/28/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Easy On/Off, Lightweight, Secure Fit Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I needed a pair of boots that can be worn with crampons once the trail reaches a glacier. I only have two months to break them in. My crampons fit perfectly and after only a couple of weeks of trial walks of 2-4 miles and a few thousand stairs with a light backpack, the boots feel like old sneakers. I wear 8-1/2 shoe, so I bought a 9 boot and two pairs of socks fit beautifully. Plenty of room in the toe box. The only thing I am a bit concerned about is a "break line" that is already beginning to emerge where the boot bends above the toes. This might be the first place that will wear out. I still consider the boots a great value and fit.
I only wear Raichle boots By Nik from Davis, CA on 02/21/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great pair of light-weight backpacking boots. I prefer Raichle boots because they tend to be wider in the toe box area.

By B the ice climber from Upstate NY on 02/17/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Dries Quickly, Durable, Easy On/Off, Lightweight, Secure Fit Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I purchased these boots at the suggestion of my boyfriend for our weekend trip. They're great for hiking with crampons. The only downside is you can't use a specific type of crampon because they are missing a lip on the toe.
