Fast Action but not durable By Trout Slayer from Talachulitna River, AK on 08/28/2008 Pros: Accurate Casting, Easy To Transport, Flexible Cons: Breaks Easily, Poor Construction Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: The 4 piece 8 weight rod performed excellently on 5-15 pound silver, pink and chum salmon for 14 straight days in Alaska, but on day 15 the second section of the 4 piece rod split where the first section is inserted leaving the rod useless. Either the rod had some defects or its not very durable. A rod of this size and expense should last a lifetime not two weeks.
"Hit the Mother Load with this product" By Emptyhook1 from Fremont, Ohio on 11/25/2007 Pros: Accurate Casting, Durable, Easy To Transport, Flexible, Good Tip Action, Sensitive Best Uses: Fly Fishing, Large Fish, River Fishing, Used for steelhead Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I used my Powell #8 for the first time fishing an Ohio steelhead river. I caught over a dozen steelhead with several 30 inchers. I liked the sensitivity and flex of the rod. It was perfect in fast moving water, plus our guide had no problems with it and caught several large fish on it. If you like flex, go for it!

By Bruno from RPV, CA on 10/24/2007 Pros: Easy To Transport, Good Tip Action, Sensitive Best Uses: Fly Fishing, River Fishing Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I used this 5 wt last Friday on the lower Owens wild trout section near Bishop for the first time. I thought it was exceptional. It was light and sensitive for a 5 wt and really helped control line. Mending was particularly easy. The line seemed to jump off the water. I was using GPX. This is going to be my go to rod for a 5 wt.
