By wncoakman from Asheville, nc on 03/04/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction Best Uses: Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great shoe. I've been wearing one incarnation or another of this Solomon shoe for 15 years. I usually get 2 or 3 years daily wear before the sole wears through or the fabric around the ankle becomes tattered. Quality slightly less than what it used to be, but the comfort is still great right out of the box.
Salomon Hiking Shoes - Very Comfortable By Duane from Laramie, Wyoming on 03/03/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Great Traction, Stable Best Uses: Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Extremely comfortable right out of the box. Took them to Rome, Italy and walked 5-7 miles every day for 5 days. No blisters or pain...excellent shoes!
Seem to be undersize compared to others By Bebob from Maine on 03/02/2008 Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels half size too big Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: These shoes seem to me to be wrongly sized. I have never had a problem with 9 1/2 fitting well enough in length. They are nice looking and probably very comfortable. If I had known to order next size larger I would have. Now they are out of the next size and I have to pay to return them or try to keep them even though they don't really fit. Guess maybe I won't buy shoes online anymore, which is too bad since I've gotten lots in the past but fine results.
Frustrating-beware!!!!!!!!
By Joe G 35 from East Tennessee on 01/27/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Great cushnig wstabity, Great Traction, Non-slip sole, Stable Cons: 4X lacing, Poor quality laces Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels half size too small Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought these for easy day hikes.
For Winter I wear a heavier sock, which feels a tad too snug in these shoes. Regular socks are OK.
I have a pair of Salomon mid hiking boots and they are surperb in every respect! These shoes are not Salomon's best effort.
They are four cross lacing and should be five for best seating of the rearfoot.
I replaced the laces supplied because they would not hold a knot tight.
There was some break-in time required for these but none for the other Salomons I have. I think they will be fine for the day hikes.
By Professor Beowulf from Running Springs, CA on 01/07/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Great Traction Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I've only had these shoes for a week and I've never worn hiking "shoes" before, so all that follows should necessarily be swallowed with a large grain of salt. Overall, these shoes do exactly what I expected: provide good, solid craftsmanship while being a tad lighter and providing a tad less stability than a traditional hiking boot. So far, they are comfortable and have good support (though a bit more in the arch would be nice). After some long walks and long sessions shoveling snow, they have proven resistant to dirt, mud, water, and snow.
