Best boots I've puchased yet
By SoloHikerVerified Purchaser from Thiensville, WI on 08/06/2008
Pros:
Comfortable, Great Grip, Versatile
Best Uses:
Mixed Routes
Describe Yourself:
Avid Adventurer
Sizing:
Feels true to size
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
These boots are well designed. Plenty of toe room. The soles roll with your step, making walking easier with a rigid sole. The back of the sole is well defined for plunge-stepping. The Goretex helps keep the feet dry and warm when slogging up snowfields. And best of all, they're not made in China!

We just went on a three day hike at Mt. Rogers in VA and did a chunk of the AT. It rained real hard the first day for a while which provided some deep mud and lots of water puddles. In these boots I didnt even have to look at the trail and watch out for either of them, walked straight through with no worry. The second day was alot of creek crossings and rocky climbs. Once again I didnt have a problem with either with these boots. They kept my feet dry and provided plenty of support for me and my 30lb. pack. At the end of the trip I had comfortable feet with no blisters. This boot does it all and then some. They even look great on the trail when I am wearing my kilt.

Comments:
I use these boots for backpack hunting and mountain hunting. I needed something that offered good support for off trail hiking with a 65 lb back pack (heavier when I pack out game) but also would work for scrambling up scree or packing meat down from a ridge line. These boots are stiff enough for mountaineering but comfortable for straight ahead hiking. I like the quick lacing hook that holds the foot half of the lacing tight while you lace the ankle part. The tread is agressive and the lining thick and adjustable. I have only worn them for about 10 miles so far but I haven't had any hot spots. The toe box is big. I usually rub my left big toe nail on boots and have had it turn black and fall off a couple times with other boots. I don't think this will happen with these boots.

Comments:
Just finished doing some of the peaks in the Caucusus's using these for terrain below 5000 metres. Above that used plastics due to the cold rather than anything else. The boots held up well, took all the rough and tumble and stayed dry the whole time. Will be a permanent part of the climbing kit from now on.

By Dog Fence GuyVerified Purchaser from WI on 06/23/2008
Pros:
Comfortable, Great Grip
Describe Yourself:
Casual/ Recreational
Sizing:
Feels true to size
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
I bought these for work, at certain times I need a heavy stiff sole. These boots are very comfortable, but heavy and stiff. If you're looking for something to run around town with these are not it. Lacing and unlacing are a little different than a regular hiker. Takes a little more time, but they stay tight once you're done. I find my self wearing the Asolo 85's & 95's most of the time. I'll probably wear the Titans more in the winter. For their intended purpose these are excellent boots.

These boots come as a replacement to my old Asolo MTF (650?). MTFs were good boots except for one apparent design flaw: the front-most two sets of shoelace eyelets could not handle the stress they received during normal wear. The result is slow water seepage right at the location of eyelets. Heavy silicon waterproofing paste from Aquaseal fixes the problem, but needs to be reapplied after several days of use. This problem seems to have been addressed in the Titans by greatly reinforcing the material around the eyelets, at the expense of a lot of extra stitching (which is always a suspect). Whether this will prevent leaks a couple of years down the road, remains to be seen. I am still breaking the boots in -- mostly just walking around the house. Not much break-in is required though. They feel very comfortable new. The boots feel very similar to the MTFs when those were new, so I expect them to behave the same.

I use this boot for those days that good sole grip and balance are crucial to doing the tasks at hand. These boots are very comfortable, and so far there are no short commings, another great boot by Asolo.

I work heli-portable seismic drilling in the mountains of western canada. these boots are the real deal for any mountaineer. only complaint is that the tongue on one ripped out in a week. this is not an easy thing to fix. it can be slipped in and the boots are still functional when tied..but i expected more from asolo.
