Comments:
Fantastic value. I would've liked to get a nylon (rather than polyester) shell, but I couldn't justify the extra expense on what's just a spare bag. Was pleasantly surprised by the quality workmanship. Alps might be a second tier company for now, but they won't be long if they keep making products with such attention to detail.

Great value but not warm enough for me
By daydreamerVerified Reviewer from los angeles, ca on 10/28/2009

Heavy, Not Warm Enough, Zipper Snags Easily
Best Uses:

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Comments:
First of all, for the price, this bag can't be beat. And the zipper unsnags just as easily as it snags because the fabric is so slick, so it's not much of an annoyance. I am a medium height, medium weight girl and this bag is basically a double wide for me. I think for that reason, I cannot keep warm in less than 50 degrees. I can throw a large-sized foot warmer into the foot of the bag to keep me warm down to 40, but I cannot sleep through anything colder than that. It is also way too heavy for backpacking, so I would only use it car camping. Overall, a great value, but I wouldn't recommend it because of the width.

Great sleeping bag, although it does feel a bit small, not an issue for me, but may be for a taller person (over 6ft) if you don't like a really snug fit.

Plan on using this for backpacking and it works well for that. Decent price for a bag that will work for 3 seasons, would be a little cold for cold temps, but good enough bag overall. Weight may be an issue for some people but for us it is doable.

Great product for the price. The construction looks solid given its lightweightness, although it has yet to pass the test of time. The sleeping bag is probably a bit shorter feeling than stated, but I'm short, but a male that is over 5'10" may feel cramped.

I am always looking for good deals on mummy-style bags that compress fairly small but are comparable in cost to the low-quality bags at big chain retailers. I buy them and loan or re-sell them to girls in my troop who otherwise end up with over-sized bags from big-chain retailers that simply take up too much luggage space in our cars. I haven't personally used this bag, though I checked it out & played with it a bit. It met my needs for warmth (3-season) and small size when stuffed. I particularly liked the draft collar on this model. I did not use it personally, but I heard no complaints from the girl who borrowed it. My only complaint is that the zipper snags too easily.

received bag and promptly tried it out as I was curious as to how i would work with a RH zipper option. it does take a little getting used to but after a few tries i was able to get the zipper to the top with a minimum of snag/s on the fabric. snags will happen no matter what kind of bag you buy. the key is in pulling the bag tight from bottom to top as the zipper makes its way up. two drawstrings: one for the hood and one to cinch around the shoulder area take a little getting used to, but are effective for max warmth. the bag fits easily into the provided stuff sack. i did not find it to be bulky at all and it fit w/ no prob into the compartment in my internal frame BP. this is one of those examples of why STP is the best for discounted, quality gear even if the technology is years old. buy this bag now or regret it when they're gone.

This is a good sleeping bag at a great price. Alps Mountaineering is a criminally overlooked brand that I think is going to get some recognition soon. The bag is attractive (if that matters), made with quality, and comfortable. I am 5'10 and my feet do touch the end of the bag, so if you are taller I would recommend the larger model. Despite the temperature rating this is a bulky bag. I wouldn't try to take this backpacking without a good compression sack... it does come with a stuff sack, but that's just for stowage. It won't fit anyone's pack. Temp is good and adequate... the rating is accurate, as far as I can tell. Slept out on a 25 degree night and I was fine. I also had it out on a 40 degree night and it wasn't overwhelmingly warm. The zipper does tend to snag on the zipper protector cloth... but zippers always snag a little. Not a big deal as far as I'm concerned!
