We lugged that bag aboard 9 flights, trains, buses, vans, taxis, tuk-tuks, hand carts, jumbos, and long-tailed boats with minimal difficulty. It is a large bag, so we had to make sure it was on the bottom. The added straps on the back were helpful when traversing difficult terrain. It was easy to lock and the side pouches very helpful for storing dirty or wet items and items you needed to get to quickly. The durability and quality are very good and it should last quite a while.

We just packed in 10 days worth of camp gear onto an airplane and it did the job. They pack a lot in, have a few different compartments and handy rollers and concealed backpack straps - with kid and camp gear in tow, we used both. We liked the design - they lay flat (don't expect them to stand up like a suitcase roller - they don't) but we found this took up less space in the car and they were more malleable for stowing irregularly shaped things inside. I would definitely recommend them. The only downside so far is that one of the zipper toggles broke off on the first day (we now just use the alternate part of the double-zip). Otherwise, these bags (we bought two in different sizes) were perfect for us. We love them.

First time I used it on a trip to Las Vegas and it worked fine. The fact that it does not stand up by itself is annoying. On my second trip one of the wheel axles broke and the bag developed a small tear in the fabric. Overall I would expect better quality from this product.
By Oriole from Washington, DC on 07/01/2009 Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: The first time I used this bag, one of the wheels broke. The axle, or equivalent, failed, and the wheel stopped turning and quickly wore as I was forced to drag it. I tried to repair it on the road, but the design did not make this possible. The bag was not heavily loaded. It's really a pain when you are in the middle of a long trip with lots of walking and transfers, and the bag can't be rolled.

It would be nice to max out the airline baggage allowance. The next size up (36") exceeds the airlines allowance of 62" by four inches. This is enough to incur the $175 oversize baggage fee (Delta).
The bag itself however appears well made and uses good quality hardware. Time will tell how it holds up to airline baggage handlers.

The only reason it is my second is that I have passed on my first one to my sone who is in the Air Force. It is very well made and worth the very fair price.

The bottom got small holes pretty fast from the rubbing that occurs as you wheel it along . Good value for what we spent.
By Rainwater from Austin, Texas on 05/21/2009 Pros: Good Utilization of Space, Large Capacity, Lightweight Cons: Weak Fabric, Weak Seems Best Uses: Car Travel, Short Travel Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: After two airline trips my bag has two holes and one major rip where the carry strap attaches. It did not stand up to the airline baggage handlers!
By WeCycleEurope from Columbus, Ohio on 05/18/2009 Pros: Easy to Transport, Large Capacity, Lightweight Cons: Easily punctured, Insufficient zippers Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: We have purchased multiple High Sierra Rolling Duffels since Sierra Trading Post has been carrying this product.
While the bag is designed well, its durability is no longer excellent. As noted in recent reviews, the quality and durability of the zippers is simply inadequate for the reality of current airline luggage handling/abuse.
Of the last three duffels we've recently purchased, the main compartment zippers have all failed and/or have been literally ripped-off after one or two flights. The zippers used are simply too fragile for a moderately packed bag with the rigors of current airline travel.
