Any larger and it could be packed too heavy, and it would also exceed most airline non-oversized luggage dimensions. I would not recomment it for backpacking/camping, but the shoulder straps give an extra option for toting in airports and from builing to building. This has been used on weekend trips for the whole family, kid's summer camps, and even a medical mission to Honduras. Problems: velcro to secure the handle straps is not enough, bottom support near the rolling wheels is starting to sag and wear.

Good size, not so durable By MM from Seattle on 12/11/2008 Best Uses: Airline Travel, Extended Travel Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This bag is a great size for me. I found that I can cram just about everything I need into it for a longer trip and still come in just under the weight limit for checked bags. The bag is capacious with only a few pockets, the wheels are large and the handle is plenty long (2 height options), although there are no feet so it doesn't stand up on its end. The zippers are not very sturdy and the airlines have already ripped the side for me, but with a bit of repair I think this bag will continue to travel with me for a while yet. If it's a deal, go for it, but when mine finally croaks I will look for a different 30" wheeled duffel with stronger fabric and more rugged zippers.
By Slim from Houston, Tx. on 12/10/2008 Pros: Durable, Easy to Pack, Good Padding, Strong Zippers Best Uses: Airline Travel, Camping, Extended Travel Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: With the new airline restrictions we have left all our regular luggage at home and switched over to duffles that offer lighter weight, can hold a lot, and pull easily. This item meets our needs and is a great buy.
By transatlantean from Santa Fe, NM on 12/01/2008 Pros: Easy to Pack, Inexpensive Cons: Not durable, Won't stand upright Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I had one of the larger ones before but had to return it as the side compartment seam ripped after a couple of long haul flights. The second one (this size) did not fare much better, the fabric around the handle ripped from careless handling (it happens in air travel!) after a couple of flight. The plastic casing around one of the wheels simply cracked and collapsed so can't roll the bag along any more. I have retired this bag from travelling. It's only good for holding stuff for storage these days. I got 3 transcontinental trips out of it this time. Admittedly i might have overloaded it or expected too much. While debating whether to return the old one, the funny thing is I am drawn to buying another one again because it is always such a bargain $ for cubic inch wise. I just wish they would last for longer than a few trips.

This one gets a 1 on a scale of 1 to 10 By CMD from Scranton, PA on 09/17/2008 Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Took this on two international dive trips (Honduras & Chile)... it's falling apart already. Wear & Tear is one thing... this is just outright poor contruction. Wish I spent the extra money and bought a quality bag
