Comments:
same day i got this rod, i went to the beach, fishing for just an hour before the sunset, i caught a snook and 3 jacks. here in south florida, the ocean wind makes fly casting very difficult. but not that day with this powell timax. its light and strong. i like it so much i already bought 9wt and thinking of 5wt.

Middle of the Line Rod
By Trout Master from Montana on 05/09/2008
Pros:
Easy To Transport
Cons:
Not a real fast rod
Best Uses:
River Fishing
Describe Yourself:
Professional
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
Not as fast as I thought it would be. I bought 5 of these rods though from Sierra because you really can't beat the price. The 8 weight does not throw as far as I thought it would. The small 3 weight is really really nice. (The 6 foot 6 inch)

Nifty rod value
By AF SaintVerified Reviewer from Boston on 04/24/2008
Pros:
Accurate Casting, Durable, Easy To Transport, Good Tip Action, Sensitive
Best Uses:
dedicated trout rod, Fly Fishing, River Fishing
Describe Yourself:
Avid Fisher
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
This is a typically nice design from Powell. I own 4 of their rods and the TiMax 4 weight is a nice combination of mid taper strength and tip flexibility. You can throw some string with this rod but laying down tiny dry flies is nicely handled. A very good all-round trout rod. Well designed and well finished and consistent with Powell's reputation for making well thought out rods.

Describe Yourself:

have 5 wt, this rod is not as sensitive or as accurate short range as the the powell XL's but is a cannon and could be used for light salt - ladyfish, small reds, schoolie stripers, etc.
