Looks like a traditional logging boot, which is the most popular boot type with the working (logging, carpentry) old timers I know; winter and summer. The boot tread is less than perfect, as I noticed some slippage on icy surfaces. A vibram, or other tread might be an improvement. Great boot!

The high tops keep out debris, and the construction has stood up well to sticks, stones and hot ash/coals. Surprisingly nice shock cushioning in the heel. So far, my feet haven't complained while wearing these, even after several hours of tromping around.
