By Miguel from Near Seattle on 04/11/2008 Pros: Close Focus, Compact, Quality Lenses, Strong Construction Cons: no attached lens caps, Objective cover poor Best Uses: Bird Watching, Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is a great value in very fine quality compact binoculars. The imaging is very three dimensional and the bokeh (background out-of-focus area) is rendered nicely. Light weight for hiking. Good contrast, nicer than Nikons that compete.
Problems: the neck strap has a strange proprietary fitting and the lens caps are second rate, not befitting a better grade of binocular. Otherwise I would have given this product 5 stars.
By Shainy, the kayaker from Taipei, Taiwan on 03/13/2008 Pros: Close Focus, Quality Lenses, Strong Construction, Works Well With Glasses Best Uses: Bird Watching, Yachting Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I had a 10x25 Zeiss Binoculars and planed to buy another high quility one for my girl friend. Comparing to Zeiss, Steiner Merlin Binoculars - 8x24 is amazingly bright, colorful, and clearity- espacially not more than half the prise Zeiss. I am very happy chose this one.
By Digr from upstate New York on 03/11/2008 Pros: Compact, Quality Lenses Cons: Strap attachment is weak Best Uses: Hunting General Use Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Overall, a good quality lightweight and compact binocular. Strap attachment is a weak spot - duficult to attach strap and very hard to remove. Won't accept standard carry straps and clips on strap provided are very weak.

Fun "Toy" for serious birdwatchers By DOPPLER from Bel Air, Maryland on 03/05/2008 Pros: Close Focus, Compact, Quality Lenses, Strong Construction Cons: Eye caps attached, Not for eyeglasses Best Uses: Bird Watching, Concerts, Live theater Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Had the Safari model, but struggled with short eye relief. Exchanged; upgraded to the Merlin; quantum leap! More money, but worth it. Quick easy focus wheel; adjustable diopter. Curved eyecups might not work for eyeglass wearers. The eye cup covers are perm. attached to strap. Wish they were notched on both sides so I could remove it when I choose. Aside from that, I LOVE THESE BINOCULARS!
Best buy in a truly compact binocular. By The Hawk from Mohnton, PA on 01/03/2008 Pros: Close Focus, Compact, Gathers light well, Quality Lenses, Strong Construction Best Uses: Bird Watching, Hiking, Hunting in wooded areas Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have used these binoculars while deer hunting with my flint lock muzzle loader. The terrain was thick with saplings. These binoculars enabled me to search the thickets for bedded deer. They were light and bright, even on cloudy days.
They are a pleasure to carry while hiking.their resolution is good and they are easy and quick to focus.
Big surprise in a small package By Traveler from New Jersey on 12/03/2007 Pros: Compact, Quality Lenses, Strong Construction, Works Well With Glasses Best Uses: Bird Watching, Hiking Travel Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have 8x30 binoculars that weigh 22 oz. and I wanted something light for hiking in Alaska for next year. I did a lot of research and came up with Steiner for excellent price (I got them [...] at a very big discount). I was really surprise how good fully coated multicoated lenses are. I did side-by-side comparison of my larger old ones and the new 8x24 - new pair won hands down. And they are so small you can put in your shirt pocket.
