By Dog Sled Girl from Ohio on 12/29/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Flexible, Great Traction Best Uses: Day Hiking, Everyday Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Very comfortable. The only drawback I've noticed is that the mesh on top has no water repellent properties... my feet were wet after being out in the rain for only a few minutes. Otherwise a great shoe, especially for the price.
By Giz from Astoria, OR on 11/17/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Flexible, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Everyday, Harsh Terrain, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I rate this boot's appearance and quality very high. The only thing I would change is to have the opening be just a bit larger, to make it easier to slip foot in.
By Peanut from Central New Jersey on 11/10/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Flexible, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Everyday, Light Loads, Long-Distance Hiking Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: After trying to find the perfect boot, I stumbled upon these. I read every review possible and decided to give them a try. I did follow everyones suggestion and ordered a 1/2 size larger - great advice! Thank you! They needed no breaking in and were extremely comfortable the first time I wore them on a 5 mile hike. I haven't been in wet weather yet so I'm not too sure of their water resistance but overall I am extremely pleased!
By Hike1 Hike2 HikeHikeHike from NYC on 08/06/2008 Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I wore these in a torrential downpour. Granted, i was only wearing a raincoat with no rain pants nor gaiters, but they're NOT water-resistant at all under these conditions. It was like wearing little squishy buckets of water. But i suppose very few boots could pass such test... Stability/support and traction suffered a bit too, but still pretty good in those respects.
By Hike 1, Hike 2, HikeHikeHike from NYC on 07/23/2008 Pros: Breathable, Comes in D-wide, Comfortable, Flexible support, Great Traction, Stable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Day hikes, Everyday, In light rain Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels half size too small Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These came in just in time, an hr B4 my wkend camping trip. My feet are wider than average but I can often still wear a 9.5 in sneakers & boots, so I ordered a 10-D. I put them on immediately, then wore them on 2 moderate-fast dayhikes of 6-8 miles each, & kept them on until bedtime. Temperatures ranged from 65-90; trails ranged from squishy/muddy to rocky/pebbly, some sections covered in wet slippery leaves. It showered lightly on both days.
Result: I love them. No slips, no blisters, no hot spots, no leaks. Perfect fit w/medium-thick hiking socks, enough room for my toes & very breathable. Sufficiently stable and supportive for me. However, those looking for very strong ankle support or thick cushioning might not be as pleased.
By Bat Girl from South Carolina on 07/06/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Non-slip sole, Stable, Water Resistant Cons: Laces don't stay tied Best Uses: Day hikes, Everyday, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels half size too big Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I'm in between an 8.5 and a 9. I ordered 9.5 to accommodate insoles with extra arch support, and based on the other comments. It worked out just fine. I work outdoors, and walk on a lot of rough terrain. The extra 2" in height saved me from a sprained ankle on the first day I wore them. They could use a tad more cushioning, but in general, they have been good boots, so far.
paradise hiker & cloud 9 are better By cha cha from naples, fl on 06/22/2008 Pros: Great Traction, Non-slip sole, Water Resistant Cons: Not strong ankle support Best Uses: Day hikes, Lightweight flexible Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I have very flat feet and have been wearing Dunham hiking boots for several years now while doing housework, gardening ,dog walking, etc., and found the arch and ankle areas more flexible than stable. I would not buy these again. The first pair I ordered broke a lace loop within 2 weeks. I strongly recommend Dunham's paradise hiker or cloud 9 for more stability and support

By G.G., a Grand Canyon Hiker from Washington, DC on 04/10/2008 Pros: Durable, Great Traction, Non-slip sole, Stable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Backcountry, Cold weather, Day hikes, Everyday, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels full size too small Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I usually wear a size 9, and ordered a 9 1/2 based on other's reviews. If you want to do an extraneous hike, go for the full size up (I should have ordered a 10). Here is my reason: I used these boots for my 3day/2night Grand Canyon hike. My right big toe is now black and blue and I expect that it will fall off eventually. Anyway, the impact of hiking down pushed my big toes up against the shoe, making the rest of the trip a little difficult. Also, the top of the shoe was a abrasive on my skin (even with the socks). Thank goodness I had moleskin, which saved me. Too bad moleskin couldn't do anything for my toes. If I had to do it again, I would just go into a retail store, find shoes that fit, and pay the higher price. Shoes are not something you want to mess around with when it comes to hiking.
