The PERFECT Winter Hat or Climbing Cap By Scientist from Northwest Mountains on 01/02/2009 Pros: Adjustable, Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Stylish Best Uses: Casual Wear, Commuting, Travel Describe Yourself: Casual, Comfort-oriented, High-end shopper, Practical Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is the perfect winter hat for any activity or for just being outside and looking like you couldn't care less about the weather. The Gore-Tex outer shell is breathable and yet water-resistant if the snow turns to rain. The inner fleece lining is just right: it's not too thick that you will overheat. The hat is thin enough that you could wear a liner balaclava under it and together they both fit under a helmet comfortably! It is well-constructed and has the best design on the market. It's amazing how many outdoor sports retailers don't have it. It has an adjustable, sliding velcro strap in back, below which is a small elastic band. The bill has a wire rim that bends when you snap it up but retains the firm shape of the bill when it is down. The ear flaps can be worn up/down or in/out, and there are loops to attach it to a jacket or for a cord under the chin. The hat is easily compressed for storage and can be machine washed, but I suggest air drying. Some have complained that sizing seems small, but I have a slightly smaller head and the medium fit fine. Don't be afraid to order a larger size; it's better to have a little extra room and adjust the strap in back than have it too tight. As for the style factor, I laughed myself silly over another review on a different site (with a higher price), which says it all: "This hat has an inside outside effect: you feel extremely secure and comfortable inside, and you are also aware that you are giving off a self-assured impression to the souls you come across on your rambling in town or country." I have no idea how I dared to go outside in the winter before I got this hat.
By Pvilleman from Pleasantville, NY on 01/02/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Lightweight Describe Yourself: Casual, Practical Sizing: Feels full size too small Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: hat fits much smaller than expected; no way to keep ear flaps up or down - just hang there
By doggy walker from Leavenworth, WA on 12/30/2008 Pros: Adjustable, Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight Best Uses: Casual Wear, Travel Describe Yourself: Casual, Comfort-oriented, High-end shopper, Practical, Stylish Sizing: Feels half size too small Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I ordered hat 1/8 inch larger, but aviator style hat is close-fitting and tight around forehead ... until after 1 week of daily wearing, pulling and stretching. Now, hat is actual size stated in specs. Very funky (or funny) look (short bill and aviator style cap) - always elicits chuckles; however, the hat IS waterproof, and very compact (can be stuffed in large pocket). Ear flaps are good. I'm still self-conscious wearing this hat in public places, but great on walks and in snow and rain.

By Mesp from Stillwater, Maine on 12/28/2008 Pros: Breathable, Durable, Lightweight, Stylish Describe Yourself: Stylish, Trendy Sizing: Feels half size too small Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I like the styling and the quality. I got a XL and it was a little small. Adjustable tab on back is a little short...I have to leave it un-velcro'd for the hat to fit comfortably. Overall I like the hat and will use it.
By Boy Scout Bill from Michigan on 12/26/2008 Pros: Adjustable, Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight Best Uses: Skiing hunting camping Describe Yourself: High-end shopper, Practical Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great all-around cap for cooler weather, especially when conditions are unpredictable. This cap allows you to wear it with the earflaps hidden in the cap during mild weather and instantly be able to pull the flaps down when things get cold and blustery.
