A great pack
By NBVerified Reviewer from Yosemite, CA on 08/01/2009
Pros:
Comfortable, Good Padding, Large Capacity
Best Uses:
Extended Hikes, Heavy Loads, Travel, Wet Weather
Describe Yourself:
Avid Adventurer
What Is Your Gear Style:
Minimalist
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
I'm a trail worker, and I've used this pack to carry all types of odd and heavy loads from chain saws to rock drills to bridge tools. I also use it on my weekend backpacking trips through the High Sierras. This pack is very, very comfortable and solid. The zippers and canvas material are heavy duty, and the pack itself is well designed. It won't shift around and throw you off balance. Because of my job and hiking lifestyle, I've used several different brands of packs extensively, and this is absolutely the only one I would recommend for great comfort and function.

Macpac rules. The best back pack on the market. Well made heavy duty construction with loads of storage space. Quite comfortable even with close to 100Lbs of equipment. A few extra outer pockets would be great but that is about the only negative.

These are great packs but they are NOT made in New Zealand like everyone seems to think. True enough, Macpack is a Kiwi company, but they no longer make their packs in NZ, but rather these are made in the Philippines. They are still a pretty good pack overall. The harness system can't compare to Osprey or Gregory and some other American companies, but even those aren't made in the U.S. any longer. They are made in Asia too. (Osprey now makes their packs in Vietnam). The real redeeming factor of these newer Macpacs is the Aztec fabric they are made of. It truly is much more water/weather resistant than the average packcloth like DuPont Cordura and all the knock-offs out there. It is also much more abrasion resistant than most of the newer, more modern lightweight fabrics being used by most high-end pack makers. These DO NOT, however, compare in overall quality to the original Made in New Zealand Macpacks of a few years back. That being said, I would still buy one again for trips when I anticipate lots of wet weather. I also have one of their Travel packs which is pretty good too....only lacking in general technology in the harness system. I think this is a great pack for the average backpacker....and you will probably never wear it out.

Comments:
Great pack, tough, adjustable and comfortable. Black was the only choice left and another color would make locating smaller items in the bowels of this pack a little easier. But that's about the only thing I can find to complain about, buy it, you'll love it.

I like this pack, it rocks. Plenty of compartments, a lot of straps to keep it tight. I can fit a 4-5 day hike, I think that's sweet... A pocket on the waist would've been really nice, or a strap to tighten a knife on. Overall this is nice pack.

purchased for a boy scout
By camping foolVerified Reviewer from colorado springs, co on 05/15/2008
Pros:
Durable, Good Padding, good range of size adjust, Strong Zippers
Cons:
Not Enough Compartments
Best Uses:
Backpacking, Camping
Describe Yourself:
Avid Adventurer
What Is Your Gear Style:
Comfort Driven
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
Solidly constructed of a cotton canvas type, nearly waterproof cloth in an understated style. Should not need a pack cover except for extended downpours. Should wear well for a boy's career in boy scouts. A little on the heavy side in comparison, but probably worth the compromise in durablity. Definately a solid value. My only worry is if repair is needed being it's a New Zealand product. But, any real outdoor store should be able to handle that.

Comments:
Macpac make good packs. The glissade is a good strong pack that I would use for being away upto a week in the scrub. But it's no too big for those overnight trips either, or that it would get in your way while hunting.

Looks and feels great to wear, the supports work a treat, although at this stage I can't find the cover for the back straps when flying (assuming there is not one), like on most backpacks, not looking forward to the first battle with a baggage carousel. Although a very small compliant for such a great product! Especially for the price!

Great for the 3-4 day hike in the Australian bush. Vast improvement on my previous pack which lacked the adjustment for the comfort required on extended hikes in rough terrain. check the photos.
