By Pagosa Slim from Pagosa Springs,CO on 04/09/2008 Pros: Durable, Easy to Pack, Good Back Support, Good Padding, Strong Zippers Cons: Not Enough Compartments Best Uses: Backpacking, Camping Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I kept hearing great things about MacPacs so I finally bought one myself. I am so glad I did!
I use the back for 3-4 day backpacking trips and multi-day deer and elk hunting excursions. For me the Glissade is the perfect size for carrying all that I need to bring with me.
What I think is great about my MacPac pack first and foremost is the Aztec material they make them out of. It's water tight with exception of some of the zipper areas, but then minimally. I've never used a cover (which can be a hassle) and my stuff has always stayed dry. The Aztec material just can't be beat for the price, it's rugged.
The harness system on MacPacs are also awesome. You don't see it in pictures, but they have a built in lumbar back support that I haven't seen on any other similarly priced packs. The straps and hip harness are amply padded and solid.
Finally, the way the pack rests on your back and curves to fit your back are just outstanding.
The only downer is that they only have one exterior pocket on the outside (some packs have three). But this didn't stop me from buying it and it shouldn't stop you. This pack at this price is a deal!
MacPac is updating their line--so get these closeout packs while they last! I've found that MacPacs are a step above the rest in construction, design, comfort & sturdiness. They have a pretty sweet logo, and if it's made in New Zealand, it's got to be great, right?!
