I did not go wrong. What an outstanding piece of work.
I will agree that the sheath is overkill unless you're on a S.W.A.T. Team. But if you can detune it a bit, I think you'll find it's as nice as the knife.
A great knife and a fantastic bargain...like only Sierra Trading Post seems to be able to put together!

By eTrekker from Pittsburgh, PA on 05/19/2009 Pros: Comfortable Grip, Durable, Finish, Heavy Duty, Sharp Blade Best Uses: Camping, Hunting, Survival Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Let me start by saying that this is the best value I've ever seen in knives (I'm a bit of a knife junkie). The regular price for this knife is more than reasonable so the STP price is a no-brainer.
The knife is substantial, weighty, of superior build quality, and the Veff Serrations are much more usable/versatile/sharpenable than the serrated portion of a normal blade.
Before I start sounding like I work for the company, I will offer some things to consider first. The knife weighs a full 16 ounces which is fine for standard use, but if you are a backpacker looking to save every ounce you can, then be warned that the tang on this is thick and heavy. If you plan on putting the knife through the rigors, then it's actually a plus.
This knife is SHARP, and the serrations are different than on regular knives. They will slice through things much more effectively than what you're used to. I realize that this is the point, but I wouldn't put this blade into the hands of kids (I know what you're thinking, but even Boy Scouts are a no no in my book).
Finally, the sheath is a high quality one, but the tactical "around the leg" thing is overkill for most folks. You can still use the belt loops on this and remove the leg wrap, but, while high quality, this sheath is probably showing off, and less functional than I would like it to be for normal use.
I'm a tough product reviewer and hold my camping gear to really high standards. This blade was a really pleasant surprise in quality.
More knife than I expected! By The Captain from Phoenix, AZ on 03/25/2009 Pros: Comfortable Grip, Finish, Sharp Blade Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This appears to be a very durable, useful knife combo without which I would not feel prepared. Much more for the money than I expected.
I would buy this knife again!!! Alot of knife for the price By geccoman from wa state on 03/04/2009 Pros: Comfortable Grip, Durable, Sharp Blade Best Uses: Camping, Home, Hunting, Survival Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I am impressed. I was looking for a stout functional knife for camping that was practical to carry. The ultima is razor sharp out of the box, holds its edge and readily recovers it with a few strokes on the stone. Heavy enough for light chopping and the butt has a very useful pry on it. The sheath is very wellmade but overkill for my purpose. I love the grip. For the money spent can't imagine a higher quality Knife.
By David from Lexington, SC on 07/26/2008 Cons: Light weightthin blade, Not as sharp as expected, Sheath of poor quality Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: This knife is probable better suited for casual camping rather than deployment in hostile country, where when you NEED a knife you know you have a tool you can trust.
