Well insulated...I had to take off the extra pair of socks that I usually wear in chilly weather after I had these boots on for a while. Nice open tread...doesn't pick up a lot of mud and debri when working where there are flower beds etc, also easy to clean when they do pick up mud and dirt. They also do a good job of keeping my feet dry. Easy wearing and nice feel on my feet, not heavy or bulky. Good buy. I am sure that they would be nice for the trail and hiking too. I will try that later.
By RABaker from West Allis, Wisconsin on 01/20/2009 Pros: Easy Entry & Exit, Good Traction, Lightweight, Warm, Waterproof Cons: A bit stiff, Relatively low-cut Best Uses: After Skiing/Snowboarding, Cold Weather, Slippery Terrain, Snow, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Gear Usage: Cold Weather Living, Winter Sports Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These boots are very warm, and I was surprised by their excellent traction on icy surfaces. The lacing system makes them very easy to take off and put on, and the waterproof lining works great for me. They look very nice, and run true to size. (I ordered my true size, and they're a perfect fit, still providing space for heavy socks.)
I feel it's important to note that they're not as tall as your standard snow boot, so drudging through three feet of snow in these isn't going to work as well as with some other boots. For day-to-day duty like shoveling and walking slushy streets, however, they work perfect and are more lightweight!
Mine are a bit stiff, probably just needing a bit more wearing-in. This and many future winters, they're sure to get it!

By Roberto the Strider from Santa Fe, NM on 01/04/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Easy Entry & Exit, Good Traction, Lightweight, Waterproof Best Uses: Slippery Terrain, Snow, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Gear Usage: Cold Weather Living Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Imagine your favorite pair of running shoes morphed into waterproof, insulated high tops with an aggressive tread-- that's what these shoes are! They grip even in icy conditions, & I love them for blazing trail through the snow because it's not like wearing concrete blocks on your feet like other snow boots.
**NOTE** It was recommended to go up a 1/2 size from your usual, & if I were to do it over I would have gotten my true size-- instead I wear an extra pair of socks & it's all good.
