Not a real hiking boots
By Chuchu from Orange, CA on 07/04/2009
Pros:
Flexible, Warm
Cons:
Not Comfortable, Not Water Resistant
Best Uses:
Everyday
Describe Yourself:
Casual/Recreational
Sizing:
Feels true to size
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Comments:
These are not hiking boots. I think that they were put by mistake in the hiking category. They are good to walk on a flat dry surface. I hiked with them 3000' elevation gain peak and it was torture going up. Down was OK. There were some streams to cross, and my feet got wet on the first one. I guess they could be good in a flat, cold, dry place, because they are warmer than most hiking boots I had. I returned them couple of days ago.

Comments:
After reading such conflicting reviews I was puzzled about what to expect, but have had good experience with Earth shoes so I figured for the price, give them a shot. In general I have no problems with the boots but I do agree that the toe box is oddly "low", particularly for a hiking boot. So far they seem comfortable for general running around, but I don't know how they would fare as hard-core hiking boots. The quality of construction seems high, as is the norm for Earth. Also, I don't know if this is just because I now have several pairs of Earth shoes and so the negative heel is less noticeable, but the heels seem 'less negative' than on other styles.

By Happy HikerVerified Reviewer from Swansea, SC on 03/03/2009
Cons:
Not Comfortable, Not Durable/ Wears Easily
Best Uses:
Day Hiking
Describe Yourself:

Sizing:
Feels half size too small, Feels too small
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Comments:
I bought these boots for day hikes. I tested them out by walking through the local mall to make sure they felt comfortable (I did this on a couple of different occasions). They felt really good, so I decided to keep them. However, when I wore them hiking, my arches hurt (not enough support) and my toes felt cramped (small toe box). I generally take a wider width, however, Earth shoes do tend to be wider in general and usually fit. Also, because the toe box is so small, really thick socks or liners with hiking socks do not feel comfortable. Also, the outside rubber on the toe box started to peel back after only a few hikes. Overall a disappointment, but they would probably be fine for someone with narrow feet and no arch problems.

Unlike other Earth shoes
By kayseo from DC Metro Area on 02/15/2009
Pros:
Negative Heel Technology
Cons:
No lacing hooks only eye, Short sleek toe box
Best Uses:
Everyday
Describe Yourself:
Casual/Recreational
Sizing:
Feels too small
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Comments:
Recreational hiker/backpacker of AT and national parks. All my shoes, except my hiking boots/shoes, are Earth. Thrilled at idea of an Earth hiking boot, but disappointed. Cypress toe box is unlike any other Earth shoe. Instead of roomy toe box with vertical height, Cypress has a sleek, low toe--more like a conventional dress shoe. Also, shoe body/ankle had little integrity. Soft, closer to moccasin than hiking boot. I still am eager for Earth to make a hiking boot!

Not for serious hiking.
By Tree Hugger from Indiana on 02/03/2009
Pros:
Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In
Cons:
Not Water Resistant
Best Uses:
Day Hiking, Everyday
Describe Yourself:
Casual/Recreational, Environmentalist
Sizing:
Feels true to size
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
I have not worn these boots much yet but they are extremely comfortable. I have high arches and was wearing orthotics everyday until I discovered the comfort of Earth shoes. No need for the orthotics when I wear Earth and my posture is better. I don't think these would be sturdy enough for serious hiking on difficult terrain but should be very comfortable for walking or easy hikes.

Comments:
I read the reviews and saw that the toe box might run small but I ordered a half size larger hoping this would resolve that problem...Unfortunately it didn't and I had to return them...They felt good when I was standing and walking but when I was sitting my toes went numb...bummer because they are really cute and lightweight for everyday wear.
