They have a great tread, plenty of toe room, and are good in cold weather. I ordered a half size up so I could wear heavier socks with them.

By east coast girl from Plymouth, MA on 11/25/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I ordered the size I normally would in a boot, size 10; (usually a 9 1/2 in shoes). This boot fits perfectly. I would not want it any smaller. Feels very sturdy and appears to be well made. This is my first pair of Montrails and I'm so glad I purchased them.
I would buy this product again By JB from Hamilton,Canada on 08/02/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Stable Best Uses: Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I use the shoes in the city and out on the trails with my dogs. I usually find it hard to find a shoe/hiking shoe to fit comfortably . I have narrow feet. I was really glad I found them.
I have orthotics. So i just remove the insoles and put the orthotics in. Feels like they were made for them. I found that there was no breakin period at all. Just laced them and go.
By mom of 6 from Eureka, CA on 06/24/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels half size too small Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I love these! The sole is quite comfortable, however, I found the top of the shoe deffinitely needs some breaking in. It is really stiff, but with some wear it should be fine. Other than the tongue and top of shoe being a bit stiff, it is very comfortable. Can't wait to try them backpacking. I did originally order a size 8, which is what I wear, however, I had to go up a 1/2 size, if that helps anyone.
By tj from Missoula, MT on 03/26/2008 Best Uses: Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels half size too small Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These seem like good, durable dayhike shoes, but they seem to take a bit to break in. There is plenty of toe room, but if you are on the line between two sizes definitely go with the larger. I appreciate the snug fit provided by the elastic piece that connects the tongue to the shoe. There is room for insoles in these shoes without squishing your feet. My feet are pretty picky, and they aren't quite sure whether they like these shoes yet.
