By Vulcana from Atlanta Georgia on 11/03/2009 Pros: Arch Support, Breathable, Comfortable/No Break-In, Dries Quickly, Durable, Great Traction, Shock-Absorbent, Stabilizes Foot Best Uses: At The Gym, Everyday, Grass, Mixed Terrain, Paved Trails, Rocky/Unstable Terrain Describe Yourself: Recreational Walker/Hiker, Trail Jogger Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: this Montrail Hardrock (2007) were great. I used them for a year for hiking, asphalt running, trail running in tropical weather and also during the fall. They were the most comfortable shoes I ever had. My feet are narrow with high arch so the cushioning of these shoes was perfect for me.
I am sorry that the new Montrail are not as good as they used to be.
I do buy this product again and again By bad feet women from Porter Indiana on 10/16/2009 Pros: Arch Support, Breathable, Comfortable/No Break-In, Durable, Great Traction, Shock-Absorbent, Stabilizes Foot Best Uses: All Weather Conditions, Mixed Terrain, Muddy Conditions, Rocky/Unstable Terrain Describe Yourself: Trail Jogger Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These shoes are the best motion control running shoes for people like me, who have alot of feet problems. These shoes are the only reason I can still run 6 to 10 miles usually 5 times a week. The only part of the shoe that wears down is the inside ankle part..then its time for a new pair cause my feet start rolling in again. But thats alot of miles...so I get my moneys worth

By cat in va from Northern Virginia on 04/09/2009 Pros: Durable, Great Traction Best Uses: Grass, Mixed Terrain, Muddy Conditions, Rocky/Unstable Terrain Describe Yourself: Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I planned to use the shoe for light trail walking (dirt/gravel/partially paved) four to five times per week, but it has turned out to be one of the most painful athletic shoes I have owned in recent memory. The sizing in terms of length and overall fit seemed to be good for both feet, although there is some pressure on top of the big toe of the right foot when I walk. My biggest complaint is that I experience a lot of strain and pain in the inner arches and up the inner ankles every time I walk in these shoes. After wearing the shoes a few dozen times, hoping to break them in, there is no change. This shoe just does something serious to my feet that I can't figure out. I have a heavy footfall, but I do not tend to over or under pronate. The cushioning seems to be adequate, the shoes lace up securely, and they seem to be a pretty rugged. They are showing virtually no signs of wear in the upper. But after an excruciating 2.5-mile walk today, I have decided to give these shoes away. Don't hang on to these shoes as long as I did with pain - if they hurt at first, return them right away!!!
By running a long from Porland, OR on 04/08/2009 Pros: Arch Support, Durable Describe Yourself: Trail Jogger Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Not as good as their older hardrocks. These are much stiffer, not good for running. But good for hiking. Also, increased break in time, the old ones had no break in time - which is how a good shoe is supposed to be.
nice trail runners/light hiking shoes. By mtnrunner from boulder, co on 04/08/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable/No Break-In, Dries Quickly, Great Traction, Shock-Absorbent, Stabilizes Foot Cons: Not Durable/Wears Easily Best Uses: Grass, Mixed Terrain, Rocky/Unstable Terrain Describe Yourself: Trail Jogger Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I used this shoe to train for the Imogene Pass Trail Race in CO last year and it worked out pretty well for me--I never had knee/foot pain during my training or the race (lots of ups and downs on uneven trails). I have also used the shoe to do class 3/4 scrambling in the mountains and it gripped the rock quite well.
The shoelaces are not the best, as they often come untied, and the bottom of the shoe wore out medium-quickly (quicker than I thought the bottom of a trail shoe should); however, it did last through a hard summer of training and a winter of lighter jogging.
By noriko n from los angeles, ca on 04/04/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable/No Break-In, Dries Quickly, Great Traction, Shock-Absorbent, Stabilizes Foot Cons: Not Durable/Wears Easily Best Uses: Mixed Terrain, Muddy Conditions, Rocky/Unstable Terrain Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I've been wearing Hardrocks as pretty much my sole running shoe since 2004 as they are one of the few high volume ~low arch shoe to fit my orthotics. As I used to be an ultrarunner, I've put hundreds of trail miles on these shoes. Unfortunately, I've seen the quality decline since Columbia took over Montrail and the fabric/foam inside tends to wear quickly. In talking to other runner/climbers I know I am not alone in this observation. That being said, they are grippy, comfortable, and high stability, perfect for long runs on technical trails. I also have a 2008 pair and they seem to be a bit more narrow that the old style. I am currently exploring other options.
