MONTRAIL JAVA XCR HIKING SHOES
By Flying T- BirdVerified Purchaser from Boston on 08/13/2008
Pros:
Comfortable, Durable
Best Uses:
Daily Use, Hiking
Describe Yourself:
Avid Adventurer
Fit:
Feels true to size
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
These shoes are comfortable, although seem a little tighter than other shoes. Good arch support. They didn't really need breaking in. So far, I haven't tried hiking in them, but have worn them around town in the rain. My feet haven't gotten wet since I got them. My feet used to slosh around in my shoes during heavy rain. These shoes are well worth buying.

Make sure you order big
By Chris the GeologistVerified Purchaser from Atlanta, GA on 08/13/2008
Pros:
Comfortable, Good Design
Best Uses:
Daily Use, Hiking
Describe Yourself:
Avid Adventurer
Fit:
Feels too small
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments:
I typically wear a 9.5 so initially ordered a 10. This too was too small so had to jump to a 10.5. This problem is because of the design of the toe box. The hard rubber (which is good because it wears well) jams your toes together. After returning the first pair and getting a whole size larger they seem to be great shoes (This is the second pair of Montrails that I have bought)

Comments:
I wish Montrail would get on the bandwagon with other manufactures and make their shoes true to size. I wear a 9 1/2 in all other shoes and need a 10 in their shoe. Otherwise it's all good.

Lots of appeal & promise
By Scottish WalkerVerified Purchaser from rural Montana on 06/19/2008
Pros:
Attractive Design, Great Cushioning
Cons:
Sizing questionable
Best Uses:
Athletics, Casual Wear
Describe Yourself:
Casual
Sizing:
Feels half size too small
Width:
Feels too narrow
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

It's hard enough to try to fit a size 14 foot, so it's a real dissapointment that manufactures still aren't using the same sizing in shoe construction. They were just too small over all and had to return them. Too bad there wasn't any size 15. Montrail gives the shoes a nice toe box.
