By John from upstate NY on 01/10/2009 Pros: Accurate, Compact, Strong Construction Best Uses: Backcountry Camping, Day Trips, River Trips, Road Trips Describe Yourself: Outdoor Enthusiast Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This compass replaces another I've had for years. I tested it for accuracy and it points true magnetic north as I know it from my home. This compass was a good value and should last for quite some time.
By Stymie from Hartford, MI on 01/07/2009 Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I am at a loss why the readings are inconsistent. I compared it with the Silva Polaris for directional repeatability and I cannot give it a lower score.
Don't get lost with this in your pack! By Charlie, The Gear Guy from Indianapolis, IN on 12/28/2008 Cons: Inaccurate, Inconsistent readings Best Uses: Shaving mirror, Wall decoration Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer, Gear Tester Wannabe, Gearhead, Outdoor Enthusiast Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I purchased this for my son to teach him orienteering and basic backcountry survival skills. Hopefully, the compass I received was a rare lemon. Because the compass is one of the most critical survival components of any outdoorsman's gear, it is imperative that it work flawlessly. This one should have never left the factory. I guess every once in a while when you test gear, you will come across a dud or two. However, I probably shouldn't have used my son as a guinea pig for an unknown source of essential gear. When buying for friends and family, always stick to tried and true gear. Albeit a little more expensive...our safety is worth it! (Sierra Trading Post helps with the affordability of quality gear!)
By none from colo spgs on 12/07/2008 Describe Yourself: Gearhead Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: geez....compas sticks and reacts to any static or pressure point....totally worthless
I would not recommend this compass. By Muddy 2 Shoes from Maine on 11/25/2008 Describe Yourself: Outdoor Enthusiast Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I purchased this for a gift and returned it. The compass needle did not float well at all, thus making it unreliable.

By pyrhanas8 from Traverse City, MI on 06/23/2008 Cons: Bezel rotates too easily, Not liquid filled Best Uses: Backpacking, Day trip Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Bought for a friend in a forestry program, who needed a sighting compass. Will probably be ok for that, but prefer a tighter bezel to hold a setting, and liquid damping to reduce needle fluctuation. The alignment slot in the cover is a nice touch.
Not Confident in Reliability By Zig-Zag from Schenectady, NY on 06/14/2008 Cons: Questionable reliability Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Ordered the compass because it is lightweight and includes sighting mirror (good for signaling too) and magnifying part (aid for tired eyes), boxy but replacing these items that I usually carry separately. Problem is that I couldn't get a reliable compass reading when I tried it out at home - the needle stuck in various incorrect positions (binding needle or static in plastic case?) - so I did not have confidence in using it on a trip. It happens to float freely and read correctly at this instant, but my decades-old Boy Scout compass still works well all the time.
