By funrunner from Chicago, Illinois on 12/28/2008 Best Uses: Backcountry Camping Describe Yourself: Outdoor Enthusiast Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great beginner compass. Get the kids a good thorough understanding of orienteering, and not worrying about how much it costs if lost or broken.
By The Fall Guy from Pittsburgh, PA on 07/11/2008 Cons: Difficult To Read, Inaccurate Describe Yourself: Some Guy Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: The compass housing on my unit was too tight against the needle. When I turned the housing the needle would turn and stick this led to inaccurate or untrustworthy readings.
By LetortHopper from Gaithersburg on 07/09/2008 Pros: Compact, Easy To Set Up, Simple Controls Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: This compass does not have fluid to steady the needle. The compass has to be held flat to get an accurate read. I didn't realize this at the time of purchase, but plan to keep the compass as a backup. Other than this shortcoming this is a standard base plate compass.
