By dk from Loveland, CO on 04/07/2009 Pros: Easy To Set Up, Simple Controls, Strong Construction Cons: Difficult To Read, Heavy relatively Best Uses: Backcountry Camping, Day Trips, Road Trips Describe Yourself: Outdoor Enthusiast Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Bought compass for a weeklong backpack on continental divide trip. Like the compass, but as I'm trying for ultra-light, it's way too heavy for the value it brings. Like the construction, etc., for day use, but wouldn't recommend it for long trips where you're concerned with weight.

By Going to China from Los Angeles on 03/23/2009 Pros: Accurate, Compact, Easy To Set Up, Reliable Performance, Simple Controls, Strong Construction, Waterproof Cons: No Instruction Manual Best Uses: Day Trips, International Travel, Road Trips Describe Yourself: Architect Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This compass is great. The rotating bezel makes for quick easy directions. I do not know hot to use the siting line, magnifying lens, or scale. Although, I did try to burn things with the lens, and it didn't work. So I am pretty sure that's not what it is for. But regardless, it makes a great case! And this compass looks a lit better that cheap plastic see thru ones.

By Lost in wilderness from Phoenix, AZ on 03/06/2009 Best Uses: Backcountry Camping, Day Trips Describe Yourself: Outdoor Enthusiast Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: The sample I received appears to have a bad bearing. When level likely to point in any direction. By playing with it can get it to point approximately North. When closed does not lock pointer. Would not buy brand again.

By Tonto from Bremerton, WA on 09/28/2008 Pros: Accurate, Compact, Reliable Performance Cons: Complicated Controls, Difficult To Read Best Uses: Backcountry Camping, Survival Describe Yourself: Backcountry Ski Patrol, Gearhead, Outdoor Enthusiast, Professional Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: This compass did not come with a single piece of paper to describe how to use it. Although intimately familiar with the Silva Ranger-style compasses, I'd never used a lensatic type. Many of its best features are wasted without some sort illustration/instruction. The standard (intuitive) functions are just as well served with a $5.00 basic compass.
