But if you have a narrow waist and are wider in the hips and thighs, this skirt is not that flattering. The waist is larger than average; the pockets are bulky on the lower part. I'm returning it.

Yes, it is a straighter skirt than the photo depicts, but I think it is meant to sit well below the waist. Worn that way, it hits right at the knee. The pockets are actually useful and not bulky or merely decorative.

I would say the size runs a little big as well. I would wear this on weekend hikes or on the weekend. Love the pockets.

I expected shorter. My waist and hips are not very different in size, so the fit was perfect for me. Love the pockets and the quality is great. If you have a fairly straight body, get it. I can see where it would not be for someone curvy.
